About Mrs. Lollipop

Thank You Very Much!

August 10th, 2007 @ 12:49 pm by Mrs. Lollipop

Our first pre-wedding gifts have started arriving and our house is slowly filling with boxes and packing peanuts. I love checking the porch everyday to see what has arrived. I’d initially wanted to avoid registering or register only for a charity, but I was talked out of it by my mother and my fiance. Now, I look at the online registry every day to see what has been purchased for us. Deep down I am a greedy little monkey. (However, we do have a donation registry at Heal Africa just to balance out our karma a little.)

Anyhow, getting presents means writing thank you cards. I’m terrible about getting them done just because I feel obligated to write much more than a “Thank you for X!” Mr. Lollipop puts the same amount of thought into his thank you cards, but he is a lot more disciplined about getting them done. So, we usually do them together to prevent me from procrastinating. For our shower thank-yous we sat in the library for three hours and each wrote half. My mother’s family tends to fall into traditional gender roles, and they were shocked and amused to receive ones from Mr. Lollipop. Really, without him they would never get written, and besides, he picked out most of the registry himself!

Just as with our other correspondence, we created a customized design. This is our wedding shower and pre-wedding thank you card:

Greedy little monkey! LOL! I love that you recognize it. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the gifts. Your karma will stay in balance because you really appreciate the gestures the gift-givers are trying to express.

We’ve gotten a couple gifts before hand too… and some checks. I’m hoping more gifts come to the apartment before the wedding (which is next weekend) because otherwise that means they’re being brought to the wedding, and we will have cram them all in our car for the 330 mile drive back home.

PS,
I dislike writing thank you notes too. I have no problem with the act of sending thank you notes, but I struggle to come up with the right words to help “personalize” the note a bit…

hehe, that’s so cute! we just printed our invitations and had 2 extra blank cards for every invitation we made with our orchid design. i didn’t really know what to use them for, but my mom pointed out that i could just mount them on a piece of cardstock, stamp the phrase Thank You and voila, instant thank you cards! my sweet FI has really fallen in love with the idea of an embosser and he chimed in, we could Emboss it on! hehe!

One of the groom’s friends got a thank you note from us that said, in my handwriting, “Hello, my name is [groom]. Thank you so very much for the lovely [gift]. It was kind of you to think of us. My wife is making me write this.”

That stunt only works for a small, small number of the guests, though.
