This Is An Entry About A Hole Punch

August 10th, 2007 @ 5:24 pm by Mrs. Eggplant

But it’s the most fabulous hole punch ever.

fiskars punch3

I’m talking about the Fiskars Large Round and Round. I bought this punch online at Joann.com to create our invitations and favor tags. It’s quite handy because the punch is flipped so that the paper comes out face up and you can actually see what you’re cutting, unlike most punches where the paper falls out of the bottom.

Below are the circles that I created with Adobe InDesign to close our pocketfold invitations. The circles and punch are approximately two inches in diameter. All I had to do was line the punch up with my design like so:

And out popped a bunch of cute little 2 inch circles! They look like pogs in the picture. smiley1054

When I purchased the Round ’n Round, I found a discount code for 50% off any regularly priced item on Joann’s website. The final price was $7 plus tax and shipping (which was expensive, so about $15). Right now the punches are on sale for $9.44 so the discount code doesn’t apply, unfortunately. They also have tag and heart shaped punches available too!

nancEE says:

those tags are so cute! Did you print those out yourself? If so, what type of printer did you use? thanks!

5.
miss eggplant says:

nancEE, yup! i printed them myself. i just have a normal HP printer (i think it’s 7000?) but it does a pretty good job. i printed it on 80lb white cardstock.

Excuse me, I had to wipe the drool off my keyboard. That is such a fabulous punch.

Thanks for this post! It’s going to save me a lot of work. I ordered one the tag punch for my favor tags… I saved a few dollars by ordering it on ebay.

damn it! why didn’t i discover this earlier! i spent long painful hours trying to line up my monogram/favor tag, flip the puncher over (w/out moving it out of place), and use my entire body weight to push down on the thing so it would go through the cardstock! geez…when will i catch up with this stuff.hehe

YUMMY!!!
i LOVE how you can see what you’re punching! I was thinking about just purchasing round favor tags to use an enclosures for the invitations, but this is even better!!

miss eggplant - is that an inkjet printer you used? the printing looks so crisp as if it were from a laser printer! rock on!

kp says:

ps - did you find it easy to squeeze the punch? i really want to get it, but my hands cramp easily. :T

and btw - the first url link works, but the second joann link doesn’t due to a typo in the url link. just wanted to give you a heads up! :D

miss eggplant says:

kp: yup! just an HP inkjet. it actually came out really well! good luck with yours. :-)

miss eggplant says:

kp: it’s totally easy to use punch through the paper. barely any pressure needed. it’s seriously the best punch ever. :-)

Amen.

I wish I had that! I bought a 2″ circle punch from Michael’s and it is awful. I had to punch 150 circles for my favors and each one took so much energy and pressure (I was even using text paper and not cardstock). . . it definitely hurt my hand to use. I wish I had found a punch like this one.

I just bought the 1inch (before reading this post) at a Joann’s store. FYI, they are currently having a 30% off sale on these in store. (The 1 incher was $4.93 on sale)

Joan, if you’re talking about the brown curly swirl, it was purchased from istockphoto.com (search for “floral pattern”. if you’re talking about the pink and green flower, it was created using the circle tool on adobe illustrator (six ovals plus circles in the center). hope that helps!

SweetPotato says:

Can you please let me know if the circle punch used above is a the “large” round and round circle punch or the “X-Large” round and round circle punch? I’m looking for something around 2.5 inches but I can’t what the size of the punches from looking at the punches online. Some websites say the “large” round and round is about 1″ but looks like the one you used gave 2″ circles. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

MandyRose says:

Hi! I know this post happened a long time ago, but hopefully this helps, SweetPotato: I just purchased the LARGE Round and Round online from Joanns. It is only 1.5″. So I believe that Miss Eggplant probably used the Extra Large. I am having to send back the LARGE Round and Round and get the EXTRA LARGE (I saw on another online store that the EXTRA LARGE should make more like a 2″ circle). Hope that helps since I know this blog from Miss Eggplant was some time ago. :)

Jean says:

is this sharp enough to cut through vinyl sticker plastic? I want to cut circles from a bumper sticker (with adhesive and peel away backing).
