‘Mooning On St. Kitts: Part II

’Mooning on St. Kitts: Part I

For the most part, our honeymoon was a very lazy one… We didn’t have any sort of master schedule nor any huge plans for our time away, saving activities and touring for a normal vacation, and making this one all about enjoying our new marriage. That said, we did make sure that we explored the island, and we ended up spending time each day on different beaches and in the rainforest.

Rainforest Hike

Our vacation stay included a hike into the rainforest, so one morning we were picked up from Ottley’s and taken up to the base of the volcano by a local tour guide named Earl.

We got to sample lots of rainforest fruits along the way… and drink water straight from the mountain springs that was clearer and fresher than anything we have bottled here in the states.

I even got to swing on the jungle vines!

The ocean

We went to the south side of the island almost everyday of our trip, which was a 15 minute drive down the coast. Now, for some this would be annoying, but for us it was our get-away adventure each day. We’d explore a new beach, do some snorkelling, and just rest and relax before grabbing a beer at the surfside bar and heading back to the resort for our afternoon nap. The best part about it though… we were alone at every beach. One day, there were 2 other people at the same stretch of beach, but they left about 30 minutes after we got there. Yup… sand, surf and water just for us… all over the island. Now I’m used to going to Maui and staying on semi-lonely beaches (10-30 people M-F), but this was just too amazing for words. Sadly, I don’t have too many photos since we kept the digital camera at home on beach days, but here are a few….

“White House” beach… it’s pretty rocky, but there are 2 sunken ships immediately in the cove… which made for AMAZING snorkeling.

Other highlights of the trip

z10276008
The awesome lizards/geckos that came to visit everyday! Thanks to them, St. Kitts has a really low insect population… which means no bug bites in paradise!

Sunday Brunch…. I live for this meal… and I don’t think I’ll ever find a way to top this spread!

In all… St. Kitts was perfect and we will definitely be back in the future. I always imagined the Carribean as a bit too touristy for my tastes, but Kitts has changed my mind… and I think I could manage the long travel time getting there again.

What did you eat for breakfast? We always had the St.Lucia Saltfish- which looks like the little patties you have. Your pictures minds me our honeymoon…. I would love to go back!
