Sweetness*

August 13th, 2007 @ 12:05 pm by Mrs. Pumpkin

One of the great things about my life this month is that I get to spend my weekends in Calgary. I love that city for many reasons, but some of the best things about it are the cute little eateries like Crave! Crave is a little shop in Kensington and they make the best cupcakes!

Mr. Pumpkin and I bought 6 large cupcakes and 6 mini-cupcakes and they were all so good! Of course everything is baked fresh each day so you have to get there early if you want the best selection because once they sell out of a certain kind, that is it for the day! My favourites were “A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts” (chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream icing and rolled in coconut) and “The Princess” (vanilla or chocolate cupcakes topped with vanilla buttercream icing flavoured with strawberry puree), but they were all very good.

We also had to buy this to go with them!

They do take orders for weddings, and they also had this cute little boat for kids! A smaller tree of mini-cupcakes would be so cute for a candy/dessert buffet or as a centerpiece on a kids’ table.

OMG! Mrs. Pumpkin, I had a one day stopover in Calgary on my trip back to NYC from Banff. We were walking to a pizza place, Pulcinella (which had wonderful, Neapolitan style pizza but terrible service), saw Crave, and then HAD to stop by to get some cupcakes. They were totally awesome - some of the best I’ve ever had, Magnolia, Cupcake Cafe, and Billy’s included!

Why are cupcakes so yummy? Is it their little puff of frosting? Maybe the fact that it’s cake without a fork? Or, the way the top has a totally different texture than the cupcake stump (yes, I “pop the top” on my muffins). Yumm… I need to go eat my salad lunch.
