The Envelopes, Please

August 13th, 2007 @ 9:31 am by Mrs. Radish

We didn’t DIY our invitations since our design skills are not so hot, but we needed to cut our costs so we tried to go as cheap as possible on the envelopes. We sent out nearly 200 invitations so this could’ve gotten pricey if we weren’t careful. I ended up getting all of our envelopes from Office Max (or maybe Depot… who can keep it straight?) for less than $60. I probably could have gotten an even cheaper price by looking online, but we were in a hurry to get them out.

The only problem was that the envelopes were just plain ivory. Pretty dull and utilitarian looking. To solve this problem I went to Paper Source and got a few rubber hand stamps to liven things up a little. The prices on their stamps are a little higher than other craft stores, but they really had the best selection of any place that I went to. I think for the 2 stamps used below it probably cost me about $25, but I will use them again for other things too.

Anyway, here’s how they came out.

On the back of the outside envelopes I used my custom made stamp (also from the Paper Source) with my return address on it. This was one of the BEST investments I made. I’ve used it for our save the date cards, the RSVP envelopes, shower thank you cards… etc. It has saved me a lot of time and it only cost about $40. And since I’m not taking Mr. Radish’s moniker, I can continue using it after the wedding. :)

Back of the inner envelope… I love this butterfly stamp!

This was a cheap and easy way for us add some style and a little pizazz to our envelopes, which would have looked REALLY boring otherwise. It didn’t take us long to do the stamping, either. I think Mr. Radish and I managed to do them all (about 200 invitations) in one night in front of the TV.

Anyone else using stamps on their invites?

they came out beautiful! I didn’t use stamps on my invites, but I did on the save the dates, and they turned out to be very nice. I don’t do any scrapbooking, but I love the stamps I got!

Those look wonderful! I did the same thing with leaf stamps, since our wedding is in the fall in New England. It’s amazing how easy it is and how nice it makes the envelopes look, isn’t it?

They look great. I used stamps on my RSVP postcards. The printer did a lovely job of putting an art-nouveau era “POSTCARD” graphic on one side, with a space for “attending or not” on the side, and our address on the other. But the back was blank! I couldn’t send them out blank, right? So I got a crocus stamp–this was back when crocuses were just starting to bloom–and stamped the back with iridescent ink. I experimented a little in how many crocuses, what color, mixed the colors, the pattern of the flowers, etc. They looked great coming back in the mail, like we planned it that way from the start. And I have a great photograph of them lined up, drying, on my staircase (it look forever for the iridescent ink to dry!)
