The SHOES…

August 13th, 2007 @ 8:29 am by Mrs. Violet

I am constantly teased for being a shortie (I’m 5’1″) but I honestly don’t care…. except that I do sort of care for my wedding. I wanted some height and when I found this cheap find from Chinese Laundry ($40 from Amazon!), I thought it would be perfect with my Champagne colored wedding gown and my 2nd dress (burnt orange). The only problem? I’m not used to wearing high heels.

I read tons of reviews before buying these shoes. All good reviews. Comfortable, sexy and classic. All plusses in my book; however, I am worried or rather my bridesmaids are worrying me. They suggest that I bring a pair of flip flops in case my feet start to hurt. I never thought of bringing additional shoes. I figured that these shoes would be fine. (Oh and thanks to weddingbee, I went out and bought a pair of insolias for extra comfort.)

I’m not opposed to bringing a pair of flip flops, but since I’m already short, once I take off my high heel shoes, my two dresses will drag on the floor thereby making me look even shorter. Know what I mean? I’ve looked for high heeled flip flops but haven’t found anything. What do you gals suggest I do? Do you carry a special pair of shoes to change into in case of the inevitable? Oh and yes I’ve been practicing in these shoes. It feels comfortable, but I do need to get used to walking in high heels at a faster pace. I also need to practice dancing in them too.. the last thing I need is a photo of me tripping on my dress and falling flat on my face. Lol!

there are definitely high-heeled flip flops. I don’t know who sells them, but I think white house/black market does. i would try zappos

You could look into getting a pair of wedge heals. That way, when these shoes start to hurt, you could give your feet a break (but not your height) by switching to the wedges and dispersing some of the weight on your feet.

those are lovely! I love the little buckles!

I bought a pair of high heeled Nina’s at Marshalls for $15 to wear and the are super comfortable! Because there is a great big lawn at our venue though, i did get a pair of nine west flats in case i want to walk around without sinking into the grass. my dress will drag a little too, but i’m fine with that. :)

Definitely invest in some foot petals! They are expensive but worth it.

i know that walking in heels all day/night is going to kill my feet, so i’m planning to wear a low-mid heel. from experience, do your feet hurt after a night of dancing if you’re wearing heels? if they do, you should think about getting some high heeled flip flops! :)

I definitely suggest a back-up pair… I had 2 back-ups for my wedding (including a platform flip flop), but I ended up not needing to wear either. It’s always better to be over prepared, especially on your wedding day… You’ll be on your feet a LOT, and you don’t want to be miserable! Good luck!! By the way… LOVE the shoes!

What color flip flops do you want if you had a choice? I bought white ones from Ann Taylor. It’s about 3 inches high. I can give you mine after my wedding.

They also sell those higher heeled wedge flip flops at Target. Also check out old navy and gap.

If not flip flops…I would go with a high wedge. Fmil bought one in silver and that will provide you the support you need and they are pretty too. Although I’ve tried the shoes you posted about before and I thought they were comfy too.

i had a couple of pairs of shoes on my wedding day… just in case. and each of the shoes had relatively the same size heel.
i didn’t go the flip flop route, cause i can’t dance well in them. i ended up not changing shoes, but i was happy to have a back-up just in case.

Everyone has been on my case about this too! I feel like wearing the heels all night AND to the goodbye brunch just to stick it to them. But the fact is, I basically have a free pass to buy a pair of shoes so I’m taking it. Love em, or hate em, I am going with the mary-jane by Crocs. Still trying to decide between ‘pearl’ and ‘cotton candy’.

Good luck to you!

I am also bringing tall flip flops just in case. I found mine online at Victoria’s Secret of all places. :) They have an excellent selection of platform/heel flippers. Good luck!

You gals are fabulous!!!!! So the verdict appears that I should get a pair of flip flops just in case! Old Navy sounds like a very affordable alternative.. I’m stopping by tonight on the way home from work. Thank’s Samantha and everyone else for your input!

I’m not a high heel wearer, but the foot petals worked well for me– i made it through most of the reception, dancing salsa a *lot* and only had to change shoes near the end. None of the flip flops I found had high enough heels or were ivory, though, so I ended up buying a pair of super-comfy wedges at DSW (which I wore on the honeymoon, too). Just a though if you want something nicer and better for dancing than flip flops.

I second (third?) the recommendation of foot petals! They’ve certainly prolonged the amount of time I could wear heels, and keep my toeses from slipping out the ends.

i was in flip flops by the end of the night and dragging my dress EVERYWHERE. that’s probably why i got stuff all over the bottom of my dress but it’s ok :) i had fun and let loose and that’s all that matters. ;)

wow we really are twins: ikea shoes cases, dress and now being around 5′1″ *swoons*

If you haven’t purchased anything yet, you may want to consider the Sugar brand Women’s Floatie flip flop in white. I have a pair of these and I love them. They are like walking on great big pillows. I walked around a mall for 7 hours before in them and my feet felt fine afterwards! I am going to buy a pair for my wedding next year since I have pretty much worn my existing ones down. I think it is just great to wear when you are standing around greeting guests. I’m having a chinese banquet so there will be at least an hour of standing near doorway of restaurant saying hi and bye. Who can see them under my dress anyway! :)

If you have already purchased something I would suggest the Sugar Women’s Floatie flip flops in White. Feels like walking on great big pillows. You kind of sink into these shoes as you walk do they totally cushion your feet. Great for standing around times, like greeting guests and no one will see them under your dress anyway.

I have the same exact shoes in brown and I honestly find them to be a bit on the uncomfortable side when worn for long periods of time. They don’t offer the best support in the heal so if you plan on doing a lot of dancing I would recommend an alternate pair or shoes. If you go to froogle.com (Google Product Search) and search for wedge flip flop a lot of cute things come up. It’s also sale season for flip flops so the price is going to be great.
