Wanted: More Boobs

August 13th, 2007 @ 3:03 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

My dress is in, ready and waiting for the alterations lady to attack it with scissors and needle. All my fretting of not fitting it after all this time has gone. In fact, the boob area is HUGE. I could literally fit a whole new chest in there. It’s odd, as I’ve never had problems filling a bust area, but wedding dresses seem to be quite the anomaly in clothing.

Anyway, I’d post pictures but as our mac has crashed and is currently getting a new hard drive, I must wait. Lucky for you guys, man! The dress pick-up was celebrated with some Beard Papa cream puffs (hmm, wedding dress/cream puffs? Which does not belong?) and some green tea with Daddy Kiwi.

As I looked at my dress, I freaked out about the bust. What if they can’t alter it?! It’s HUGE! I lamented my choice of a heavily beaded bodice. Oh, if only the dress was plain, sans beading. Alterations would be a cinch- just those feet of extra fabric taken off the hem and I’d be good to go.

All weekend I couldn’t fall asleep, afraid of the alterations this dress would need- the COST of the alterations. *sigh* Even shopping for my bustier didn’t help. I was just a little discouraged, nothing fit and I was hot. Not the best circumstances!

My hopes were lifted this morning when Mr. Kiwi’s mom called. Her friend is doing my alterations (she’s an accomplished seamstress who has made dresses from scratch), and she wants me to bring the dress for the fitting as soon as possible. So, FMIL has offered to go with me to the valley, pick up my dress where I left it (my aunt’s house) and to take it to her friend.

Hopefully I’ll have good news to report! How many alterations did your dress need?

so funny! me too! I never have a problem filling out dresses but the wedding dress has been quite the anomaly in fit. I suppose they have to make it on the big side because its easier to make it smaller than bigger! I got cups that I’m getting sewn in so we’ll see how it goes. Still have a few weeks till my first fitting.
Good luck!

i’m in the process of alterations right now. i’ve gone back twice because they’ve had to resize the bust down too. mine is also heavily beaded on the bodice but that was no problem for my seamstress at all. she had to take out at least 2 inches on each side and it didn’t alter the shape of the dress. she’s really good. so if your seamstress is good, she should be able to work with it just fine. just don’t lose any more weight. i have to wait til 1 month before my wedding because i’ve lost so much weight since the first fitting (3 mos ago). so we’ll finalize the bodice at the end of sept.

My wedding dress fit perfectly- so no alternations needed. I took it to a professional to see what he thought and he told me it didn’t need anything!!

Mine fit pretty well with the exception of height. My friend’s mom shortened the hem and added the loops for a french bustle. The bust area fit pretty well, but I had it taken in a smidge on the side seam to make the very top of the dress a little snugger (the top came away from me a little too much

Yeah, you’ll be fine! I was really impressed by how many elaborate changes my seamstress was able to execute flawlessly. It shouldn’t be a problem to take in the bust even if it’s heavily beaded if she’s really good at what she does! And if she seems to think it will be really difficult…just ask if you can take the dress for a second opinion.

I agree it’s important that a heavily beaded strapless top fits pretty snugly. The heavy breastplate that moves separately from the torso is soooo not a good look, and if you have a big gap when you exhale, look out! Photos taken from the side look really weird… dress with a mind of its own separate from the body. Wish my cousin’s now-wife had thought about this…

It took me 6, count SIX tries to get it right. I’m so short and, as they said, have small shoulders, so they had to untack the bolero jacket and retack it - like 3 times. I’m so glad it’s over with.

Do you have time before your wedding for a transplant? I’d be happy to offer up some of my extra boobage. ;O)

Ugh! I feel you… They have these Fashion Stick push-up cups that have adhesive to stick to the inside of your dress. (Rather than sticking to yourself, which we all know how painful those can be!) They will get you up one cup size. They’re foam, not silicone, so they’re light! You’ll probably still have to get alterations done, but hey, who wouldn’t want a little extra? http://www.pkfashions.com

I got really lucky! I fit into a dress off the rack and got to take it home with me the same day. The only things I needed done was a few running stitches in the bust to prevent it from gapping and the bustle. Good luck!!

Oh my goodness, I totally know what you mean. I normally can’t zip up dresses pass my bust but when I found wedding gowns that I couldn’t fill, I was astounded! I normally wear a size 2 which I guess translates to a size 8 in wedding gowns. Who do the manufacturers think will wear these things. Someone who is normally a size 2 w/double EE’s? Hahahah
