We Have A Solution

August 13th, 2007 @ 1:26 pm by Mrs. Corn

A while back I asked the Bee for some help coming up with a way to give instructions on what we want our guests to do with the guest book wish tree.

Here is what I finally came up with:

We Have A Solution : wedding diy guestbook newport Pics0003
We Have A Solution : wedding diy guestbook newport Pics0004
We Have A Solution : wedding diy guestbook newport Pics0005The shadow box was on clearance at Target for $7.99. I’ve had the ‘plate holder’ it is sitting on for years, but I think I originally got it from Pier One. The flower was an embellishment on a gift we received from Williams & Sonoma. The paper for the sign is left over from the invitations, and then I just used two of the tags from the ‘pot’.

Along with this sign that we will put on the table next to the tree, the guest book wish tree is mentioned in the ceremony programs. We also plan on having the band leader remind our guests throughout the evening to participate.

Hopefully by using all these ways to communicate about the tree, we will get a good response from people.

This is a great solution, but I’ll tell you from experience, don’t expect people to follow instructions. I had a huge, blank mat for people to draw on to eventually end up with a big doodly work of art. We had a sign that read:
“There is no guestbook for you to sign,
Just some pencils and a canvas waiting for your designs,
So give us your drawings and sketches from the heart,
At the end of the night, we’ll have a big work of art!”
Or something to that effect…we even started it off with a pretty drawing my mom made. What did we end up with?

A big mat full of misspelled “Congratulations” and signatures. Bleh.

Good luck, but don’t be surprised if a year from now your advice is “Congradulation on your wedding day! Uncle Jim and Aunt Susie” :-)

THANK YOU! This particular piece of my puzzle has been a challenge - despite my being the creative sort (if i do say so m’self), I was just stumped on how to display instructions for our postcard station (pre-addressed/stamped postcards that our guests can write us funny messages on, to be mailed a few a week by my mom after the big day). This is perfect! nice touch of class, no posterboard!

Gina - i am so glad this helped you. I feel like there is NOTHING out there with any examples of what people have done…so I am glad to have made a positive impact on someone’s wedding world. Kind of makes it all worth it :)

[...] I FINALLY took the shadow box that I used to make the Guest Book Wish Tree Sign and made a memory box of our invitation [...]

Where do you store the cards after they have been written on, when the wedding is over? Are you doing to make a book with them? I love this idea…I am just not sure what to do with the cards…

Shana, so far the cards are all still in an envelope sitting in a drawer (insert shameful feelings here). But some day, I hope to put them all in an album.

Cindy - glad I could help.
