Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Ms. Kakerwhart wants to know if anyone has used seating planning software to plan table seating?
  2. Andria needs some insight on printing programs on 12×12 cardstock, which doesn’t fit most printers.  Any ideas on what program to use, and where she can get it printed?
  3. Sadoorea wants to know how she can print on her invitation envelopes which are 6×6.  She can’t find a template.
  4. Andrea has 9 days til the wedding and would like whiter teeth.  She wants to try Gosmile but it’s out of her price range.  Any other suggestions?

I am paying for my BM dresses (only 35 bucks for custom-made dress) but I have to purchase my own fabric, which I’m afraid will be pricey for 5 girls. How do I go about asking my BM’s to pitch in if they don’t offer (a lot of them haven’t been in weddings before)? Any non-tacky ways to handle this?

Andrea - don’t think I’m nuts but just gargle/rinse with Hydrogen peroxide - it is the base of all that stuff anyway. It’s $0.79, totally safe, instructions are on the bottle, and…if it makes you feel better you can follow with a rinse of listerine and water.

Best route - brush your teeth with baking soda (water on the toothbrush and dip in baking soda) to start the process, then follow with the peroxide. You can do the peroxide every day - but don’t do the baking soda but maybe 2x a week at the most.

TRUST ME - CHEAP AND FABULOUS!

I have suggestions for #2 and #4…

#2. Kinkos. They can print just about anything. And it’ll save the agro of trying to work it out yourself. Give ‘em a call Andria…good luck!

#4. I used the Crest Whitestrips, and while the sensitivity issue was a problem for me initially, I figured out how to deal with it. I did it once a day for one day, and then tried the two applications in one day which hurt my teeth too badly to even want to touch the box again for another 2 days! On the 4th day, I used them once in the evening, and that was that. I still have enough for 3 or 4 more applications, which I might do here pretty soon. My dentist gave me some sensitivity swab things to use before I put them on, so hopefully that’ll help.

I have really sensitive teeth, so that’s all I would warn about. They seemed to work pretty darned well for me, but my teeth are in relatively good shape, too. I’m a Diet Coke drinker, so that’s what they’re stained from.

Hope this has helped a bit!

Crest Whitestrips didn’t work for me so I used the Target ones and they look amazing. The pain was awful, I didn’t have any with Crest, but after 4 days I noticed a difference.

Andrea– Crest Whitestrips worked for me; it gets mine about two shades whiter. They are kind of annoying to use, but I do get comments on how white my teeth are afterwards! I also agree with t about the baking soda/peroxide method. That is great for getting surface stains off, like tea and coffee. The only thing is you have to avoid getting the baking soda on your gums or lips cuz it stings like a m****.

JennH– It’s expected for BMs to pay for their own dresses, so simply tell them, “Your share is $____; I am covering the cost of the seamstress.” You’re actually doing them a favor by paying for part of it, so it’s not tacky.

Mrs. Kakerwhart: I haven’t done my seating charts yet but I plan to use http://www.floorplanner.com/ - it’s free, web-based, and they have a seating chart option. Good luck!

chiming in on the teeth whitening suggestions - if you try whitestrips or any other method, make sure you do NOT drink coffee/tea/diet coke/red wine during these 9 days, or they will just be stained back. This was an issue for me b/c I am addicted to a morning cup of coffee… so if you are like me and must have some caffeine, use a straw. I ended up getting iced coffees (day of my wedding I sent my mom to panera to get one for me!) so I could use a straw. And then brush your teeth right afterwards to prevent any restaining. Hope that helps :)

Is it ok for me to match my shoes to the oyester colored sash around the waist of my dress or should I get a pair that would match the diamond white color of the dress itself?

(p.s. I just tried to post this question so if it shows up twice…sorry!)

Question:

We’re considering eloping to Minnesota. But they have a 5 day waiting period for your license.
We don’t have the time or money to fly up there twice or stay for that long. Any ideas? (We were hoping to go the end of September this year.)

Hi - Baking Soda is abrasive but you can use it everyday if you want - you can also combine baking soda and peroxide together to create the paste if you like. Hydrogen Peroxide is a more gentle ( but I think faster) whitener… You should talk to your dentist about using baking soda every day - for some people with a more soft/sensitive enamel it isn’t the best solution - for others its is great. Baking Soda in toothpaste is a whole different story!

Just don’t use acids like lemon and you’ll be great - those are FAR worse than baking soda.

Andrea: There are mega-strength drugstore white strip type products now. Just be advised they will make your teeth sensitive! Also beware of staining food/drink/tobacco until you are done w/ wedding photos.

Hi JennH,

I would email all of them and say, “Hi, all, thank you so much for being in my wedding! I’m really excited about the dresses and am all set to get them made. The cost for each girl for the fabric is ‘x’. I’m going to pay for all of the labor, fittings, etc. If this price is a problem, pleease let me know and we can work something out!”

Don’t feel bad. :)

Thank you so much! I hadn’t even thought of not drinking coffee/diet coke so I will definitely use a straw! And I am going to try the baking soda tonight!

Kakerwhart - Miss Lemon (I think) blogged about using Bed Bath and Beyond’s seating program on their website. You just have to set up a registry (but not put any gifts on it) and you can upload your guest list from an excel file. I am using it. I haven’t gotten as far as needing to put together the seating chart, but it looks to be pretty easy (and thorough) to use.

Sadoorea - I used 7 x 7 envelopes and printed right on them with my HP INkjet printer. I just set up the page size as 7×7 in Word and it worked fine. I am sure if you set up your page as 6×6 you can do the same thing…

Andria - is your 12×12 size the final size? That seems big, unless you are making placemats :) Is there a way to cut the paper down to 6×12…not sure what you are trying to do so I am not sure how to give advice…

i also used 6×6 envelopes. i fed them through my inkjet printer without any probs. i used microsoft word, set the paper size to 6×6 and centered a drawing box to fit 3-4 lines for the addresses. i used the text function and copied addresses from my master guest list and then printed them out. works like a charm. don’t pay $ to get them done at kinko’s!

no, 12 x 12 is not the final size….i’m either folding that in half or folding it like a brochure….

Andria…not sure you can get a 12×12 sheet through the printer.

You could print what you want on smaller sheets and adhere it to the panels though.

Sorry…that’s all I’ve got :)

Hey Bee! I need bustle advice: I bought a Vera Wang, simple, silk charmeuse gown. There is a tiny corset back with long flowing ties, and the whole dress is pretty filmy and flowy. I can’t seem to find any pictures for bustles for this kind of dress - what do you recommend and can you point me to any pictures? One of my friends suggested just doing a wrist loop and not worrying about a bustle - what do you think? You can see the dress here: http://bridepower.com/EA10.ASP?line=8&ccid=04397&page=1

I have a question about undergarments. My dress is a mermaid gown, pretty tight on top and flaring out mid-thigh. The top of the dress does include boning, but I’d like something to wear underneath if possible. (The idea of going without any sort of undergarments just irks me for some reason). Also, I’d like something to keep my tummy tucked in throughout the night, but I also don’t want a mark visible where a corset would end and my bare thighs would begin. Are there undergarments that would go all the way down my thighs? I’m getting married at the end of June, so something lightweight would be ideal. It sounds like an impossible request, but I’d like to hear what other brides wearing underneath their slim dresses? Thanks!
