About Mrs. Strawberry

Took a little trip to the ribbon store yesterday. Picked up a nice chocolate brown satin ribbon for each of my bridesmaid’s bouquets.

I also found a super wide rose pink ribbon for the flower girls’ sashes.

But I truly hit the mother load when I stumbled upon a beautiful soft pink velvet ribbon for my bouquet, and an ivory pleated ribbon for an accent band.

I took my little stash to the register and they cut everything to my requirements. 6 yards for the sashes, 10.5 yards for the bridesmaid’s bouquets, and 1.25 for the velvet ribbon and .25 for the accent band.

You’d think I’d look at price tags. But no, not me. The velvet ribbon was $45 a yard!!! And the accent ribbon was $25 a yard! DANGER. They had already cut it for me…I couldn’t not buy it! They did give me a bridal discount…but my final bill was still close to $150. DANGER. That’s all I can say.

Woah!!

At least the ribbon is beautiful. Maybe you can use it again after the wedding? For those prices I would! ;)

That scares me… now I wonder if I can afford the trims I was planning to get for my girls… ayee!

Was that at Nancy’s Sewing Basket? I almost did the same thing with silk tulle. I was ready to checkout and the total was close to $400. Fortunately they didn’t have to cut anything (since it was the last piece) so I didn’t end up buying it.

Holy moly! I feel you though… I told my florist I wanted this one gorgeous ribbon I saw in good old MS Weddings. She found it and called to tell me how much it was… I almost fell over. After I got over the shock though, I did have her order it. She didn’t mark it up– I have the receipt and everything… let’s just say it was in your velvet ribbon range and I wanted six yards. Aiiieee!!

I bet that pleated accent ribbon could be made from plain ribbon, pressed and tacked down or sewing-machine stitched. But that’s a lot of work, too; not too bad if you only need a little bit.

This comment just cracked me up. ^-^ I agree with using the ribbon again. That is some pricey ribbon! (but *very* pretty!)

Beautiful ribbon!
You’re not the only one who went a little crazy and forgot to look at prices. My “homemade” silk wreaths that my mom made, though beautiful and special because they were made by my mom… cost more than if I had bought a premade one online.

sadly… i’ve been that person who put it in the basket to realize later after paying the bill, I will then have to donate an organ to make up the difference.
