Preparing To Be Fitted

August 14th, 2007 @ 4:08 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Well, my first fitting is scheduled for tomorrow. Since my hem and train are massively embroidered, the gown will have to be taken up from the waist. I may lose some of the embroidery at the top, but I care more about the pretty design at the hem. Preparing To Be Fitted : wedding los angeles wedding dress Happy024 happy024

Anyway, tomorrow I’m wearing my kickass corset (it has a zipper!) that I got at Fredrick’s of Hollywood. You can’t really tell, but it’s lace and lovely. Sucks me in, pushes me up (in a non-skanky way) and keeps the girls from jiggling around. There are inner hooks that hook before you pull up the zipper. It also came with a one-size fits all g-string that does not fit at all, let me tell you. I may end up using it as a hanky!

After work tomorrow I must gather my things, corset, shoes, veil and all and prepare to be poked and measured. We all know that’ll be a great way to end a day at work! Honestly, I’m just excited to get started on the fittings, since I have a feeling the beading on the bodice may cause a bit of a problem.

What kind of things did you need for your fitting?

PS: Pictures will be forthcoming, but we’ve since left our Mac to get a new hard drive, and our usb cable to transfer pics is missing. Pics will come, I promise!

I took my shoes I planned on wearing and my Spanx slip that I’ll wear under the dress, and that was it! Since my veil was designed by a gentleman that works for the store that sold me my dress, they’re storing it for me along with the dress, so when I go in for fittings, they bring the veil out for me as well. I’ve had two fittings thus far, and will have one more in early October to make sure we’re on the right track weight-loss wise (I have a corset-back dress, but the modesty-panel thingy isn’t quite meeting up properly yet. We can move it, if need be, but I’m really hoping I’ll be able to lose a bit more weight instead of needing to alter the dress to fit my chubby waist). After the first fitting, I also took along a towel and some refreshing body spray I could spray on myself when done with the fitting…I get sweaty in my dress, even with the AC set to 68! I suppose it’s nerves, but it’s good to know ahead of time how my body reacts to it. I’m also glad I’m getting married at the end of October. I can’t imagine how bad it’d be if I had to wear it outside at all in any temps above 65!

Have fun…that corset is gorgeous!

I keep hearing “spanx” as the of-the-moment thing to wear under your wedding dress. Never tried them myself, but looks like it could be helpful so I might try. http://www.spanx.com

I brought the requisite shoes, slip and long-line bra. The shoes, which I only stood in for 45 minutes, were so uncomfortable that they are being returned this weekend. Super glad I found that out now rather than on my wedding day. SEXY corset btw!

Faith - I was sweaty and icky during my fitting, too. It was a 90+ day outside and humid, too. Inside was somewhat cooler, but I guess I was nervous as well. Good idea on the hand towel. I must have horrified my seamstress and her hubbie.

C-girl - Virtually every store sells a product similar to Spanx, they’ve been out for eons. I bought a pair at Kohl’s and they were less than half the price of the name-brand. The most common Spanx (and sim. products) are light-weight, stretchy bike shorts that suck in at just the right spots (important, too, are thigh and waist bands that do not “roll” like cheap stockings do). Multiple levels of control are available, from barely-there to a vise-like grip of death.

oh cool, i was thinking of buying a corset from frederick’s but wasn’t sure about the way it’d feel/quality. maybe i’ll bite the bullet and just buy one. =)
