T-Minus 11 Days Update

August 14th, 2007 @ 8:33 am by Mrs. Jelly Beans

Ok so we are now 11 days away from our wedding day! Woot! Woot! :) I would like to paint a picture of what the last few weeks have been in the Jelly Bean household.

Hold on to something, you are in for a bumpy ride.

My dad, very ambitious but lacks “bridal organizational skills” decided to dig up a perfectly good backyard, sideyard and front entryway 1.5 months before the wedding. Fast forward to today. I blindfold myself every time I enter and exit the house.

My dad, and my 3 younger brothers purchase a full size drum set which is now located in the middle of the family room amidst my wedding piles. *enter tranquilizer dart*

I just received an email this morning from our decorator, that the company who was going to drape our tent had an incident involving fire and our draping fabric. So that means no draping for the Jelly Beans wedding. Surprisingly, I was calm when I called our wedding planner. There was no throwing, screaming or crying of any kind. Yet.

My MOH, who was supposed to be here 2-3 weeks ago, decided she had more important events to attend and is arriving late this week.

My MOH was supposed to pick up her dress and the other bridesmaids’ dresses 2 weeks ago from the seamstress who is now on vacation, but did not and told me she did. Got that? :)

So we are waiting until the shop re-opens this week before she leaves. Which leaves no time for alterations if she needs them because she will be on a plane to Canada.

Mr. Jelly Beans is spending all his days knee deep in dry wall dust and putty, trying to feverishly finish my parents basement, another one of my dad’s many projects, before the big day.

And I, Miss Jelly Beans, will remain calm, cool and collected.

Although I am really scared that one more thing will push me over the edge.

Anyone else feel like this? Or is it just me?

Given your not so good luck with your MOH, please make her swear on her life that she will hand carry the bridesmaid dresses on the plane in a garmet bag. I can easily see her checking those dresses and them never making it to Canada.

sounds like a lot going on! Most of it I can see stressing you out.

I don’t know from your post whether you are annoyed at your MOH, but I think coming a week before a wedding for being a MOH is something to be grateful for, not annoyed that she didn’t come for an entire month? I may not be understanding the story, but that is really sweet she is coming so early.

It sounds like you’re doing great Miss Jelly Bean! I am about six weeks out and I feel that way too. My FH and I just moved into our partially remodeled new home, I work, and am about to start back to school in two weeks, among other things, I feel on the brink myself! So I think you’ve got it under control. :)

Me! (raises hand and jumps up and down)

11 days to go as well and had a vendor bail on me last week with a lame excuse. Everytime the groom and i try to do the seating chart we have an argument. The favors are not done at all. I haven’t had my sedond dress fitting yet and the undergarments I got for it no longer fit because I lost weight. The child wrangler we had for our son will not be able to be there that night now… and on and on.

do you want to hold hands? :)

Jennifer says:

Me too! Me too! I’ve got 10 days to go and just found out my hairstylist dislocated her shoulder…this after going through two other hairstylists to find her :(

Just remember that no one but you and Mr. Jelly Beans will know when things don’t go according to plan. It’ll all fall into place :)

Emily says:

Me too! 11 days to go and I ran into the radiator this morning, gashing my leg open and causing a bruise the size of a softball (actually protruding from my leg!). I’m gonna look HOT in my RD dress. My grandmother has just been put into the hospital and we were told it was going to be “any day now”. My only close blood relative has decided to leave her husband and now won’t return any phone calls so we don’t even know if she’s coming to the wedding. My fiancé still hasn’t purchased shoes, socks or a SHIRT for the wedding. And my list goes on and on too!

I’m holding hands with Bride of Rochester. Deep breaths, ladies.

Andrea says:

Woohoo! We have the same wedding day! Hang in there! My mom just got her MOB dress yesterday! So glad that is taken care of! And I’m with Bride of Rochester on the disappearing vendor situation, but you replace them and move on. It’s going to be a wonderful day! Good luck!

Chrissie says:

Yikes! If you do decide to have last minute alterations done, I would make your MOH pay for any rush fees. That is not cool.

Moi says:

Sounds like “Father of the Bride” at your house! Well, just keep laughing. These mishaps will make for better stories down the road.

Lucy says:

It must be your nurse training. Because I would seriously be strangling anyone who dared come into my path at this point. And all downtime would be spent sobbing into a pillow.

Good luck! Do not follow my lead–your calm will serve you well.

Mary says:

keep smiling Miss JB!

I’m so impressed at how well you’re handling these snags - and I hope I can follow your lead. Our wedding September 22, and I’ve given myself until August 22 to try to manage and control every detail . . . then from August 23 through September 22, it’s all about letting go and enjoying the ride :)

Thanks for all your encouraging words! Gosh I love this place! :) Its my escape from the craziness..

Baghdad bride- too late, she is on the plane as I type this reply. yikes!

Sam- super long story. I am not annoyed just disappointed. This was all planned out many eons ago. I had so many girly wedding things planned for me and MOH because she has been in LA. Oh and trust me I have been uber grateful for everything. :)

14.
Jennifer says:

Wow. Good luck with everything!

kp says:

Sorry to hear about all the snags along the way! (Why is your MOH lying to you and saying she picked up the dresses when she didn’t? :( ) But like the other comments have already stated, just try to laugh and remember to enjoy the unique moments up till the wedding. - they’ll def. make for FUN conversation after it’s all done. :)

L says:

I gotta hand it to ya, Miss JB. I would have been PISSED that my MOH lied to me. Just think, it’s not your problem though. If the BM dresses need alterations, they’re the ones who will look funny, and all the other BM can blame MOH.

Good luck with everything else!

LS says:

Is it like a rule of wedding planning that at least one of your BMs has to disappoint you? I actually had a BM (who has yet to lift ONE finger for anything so far) tell me she *probably* couldn’t make the RD, and then add “just to be clear, my only responsibility is to walk down the aisle right?”. Are you effing kidding me?

Your post just made me hyperventilate. I think hives are coming too :0

Bride of rochester- hold hands? I would like hugs please! :)

Emily- please join the circle of hugs… *hugs out to you*

Moi- kinda funny isnt it? I am trying my bestest not to lose it on some poor defenseless stranger on the street.

LS- amen to that!

Griffen- quick grab a paper bag and some benadryl! :)

I’m trying to plan a wedding in Ottawa too! I definitely understand the frustration of trying to plan a wedding in a small city with few good vendors!

I’m wondering who you ended up with as a photographer for your wedding and who is your decorator? How much do they charge?

Thank you kindly.

Hi Jenny,

Happy Planning or maybe Congratulations are in order with the lateness of my reply!

It was really challenging to find vendors with the limited choices Ottawa offers. I did however hit the jackpot with our photographer, Miv Fournier (www.MivPhotography.com) and our Day of Coordinator, Stacey Price (www.marrymeproductions.com)! They were fantastic! I blogged about them in more recent posts.

Hope this helps! :)
