My Somethings

Something old…

My great-great-grandmother’s diamond necklace, from the 1870’s.

Something new…

Earrings from Mr. Bluebell the morning of the wedding. Plus, you know, dress, veil, etc…

Something borrowed…

Yeah, that same necklace again. My grandmother left it to all four of her daughters equally, so I borrowed it from my mom and three aunts.

Something blue!

This is a blue crystal earring that my grandmother wore to her first formal dance as a young woman. It’s pretty worthless monetarily, not to mention missing half the crystals, but my mom always remembered her talking about how proud she was to wear something so elegant and how beautiful they made her feel, so I attached one to my bouquet in honor of her. (In the second picture, they’re lying on another something old - a purse that belonged to my grandmother in the 1950s.)

Beautiful! My mother gave me gold earrings from my grandmother with a white/blue stone in it. I don’t know what it’s called but I can’t wait to show it to you. It has that same antique look.

Your post is so touching! I love how you cherish your strong family ties and had a way of keeping your grandma close to you on your special day.

I love all the honoring of the women in your family via your “something” items, including yourself with your new earrings! *sniff!*

Aw, so sweet of Mr. B to give you a morning-of wedding gift. Lovely. And that necklace is just stunning. WOW!

So sweet.

If you want, a reputable costume jewelry repair shop could replace the missing crystals. (Surprisingly, it’s not a DIY project for novices; the shiny backing becomes dull w/ the wrong adhesive.) So happy w/ the results when I had my great-grandmother’s pin repaired.
