About Mrs. Petunia

Da Dress, Da Dress!

August 16th, 2007 @ 11:47 am by Mrs. Petunia

I felt I had no choice but to make the decision to search for a new wedding gown. No matter how often I tried on the one I bought, my heart just wasn’t into it. Sigh. I don’t know what I liked about it in the store. Maybe I was tired. Maybe I just wanted to spend less money than what I had originally imagined. I wish I had stopped myself from buying a dress I didn’t love. Sometimes we think with our brains, sometimes our hearts. I let my brain win, and I regretted it.

In the end, buying a new dress ended up making the whole purchase more expensive, of course. But now I can say I heart heart heart my gown!

I especially love that it has a Spanish flair, since I was born in Spain: in fact, it’s a Pronovias dress! The style is called Estima. I purchased it at Bellissima Bride in Deerfield Beach. My bridal consultant, Kate, is a sweetheart, as is everyone else who works there!

And I have to thank my lucky stars for my wonderful brother and sister-in-law. My MOH has not been the most helpful with this dress business…she was holding on to the first one purchased, and it was a pain to set up a time to get it from her so that I could see it in person again. One of my friends (and one of our ushers) finally got a hold of her and got the dress to me back on July 4th. Her comment when she saw him? “How ridiculous: a get-together on the 4th of July over a stupid dress.” I was heart-broken when I heard her comment. Sigh. And, as I hate confrontation, I haven’t even told her how upset she has made me.

So, instead, I first went shopping for my new dress by myself. And then, after making the solid decision to buy it, I took my sister-in-law with me to make the big purchase. I can’t begin to explain how amazing she and my brother are: they paid for half of it!!! I was shocked and so humbled. They really are, and have always been, my biggest supporters…

And finally, I give you “da dress”!

Mr. Petunia: don’t look!

I’d like to especially thank my local Knotties who helped me make the decision to buy this dress, when faced with pictures of it and my original gown. When my MOH wasn’t there, they really became a prized asset to me. Thank you South Florida Knotties!

That dress is gorgeous, I LOVE pronovias!

I’m sorry about your MOH - it’s weird I keep hearing from other people who are also engaged that there is always that one person who disappoints you during the wedding planning process, and your relationship is never the same afterwards. For me, it’s one of my BMs.

The upside is that I feel like there have been (many more than one) people who have completely surprised me with their love and support during this time, and it looks like you are experiencing that with your bro and SIL.

I think you made the right choice - you have to go with your heart.

Huh? Why was your MOH holding onto your dress?

Well, MOH drama aside, you look absolutely GORGEOUS in that dress.

i looove how it hugs your curves! that’s exactly the kind of dress i wanted… but ended up with a ballgown type of dress. i’m totally in the same boat as you. i think i was just tired, and the cost was perfect, and my very opinionated aunts absolutely fell in love with the gown…. i should’ve looked some more. so i’m soooo happy that you listened to your heart and got what you truly wanted! so are you able to return the other gown?

What a beautiful gown on you. Are you considering a mantilla veil for more Spanish flair?

Beautiful! Pronovias is one of my favourite briday designers, and I’m a big fan of mermaid and trumpet silhouettes :)

Are you going to wear a cathedral length veil like that?

YAY! I’m so glad you gals like: really, it means a lot to me. I love the dress, but after all the dress drama, you get a little worried no matter what over whether you made the right choice.

I AM planning on wearing a cathedral length veil: do y’all agree that would look right? I’m more fond of veils without anything added to them and no edge trim, I guess like the one I’m wearing in picture. What do you say?

I can’t seem to LOVE a mantilla: I just don’t seem to like how flat it sits atop my head…
