About Mrs. Licorice

Let There Be Light, Part Deux

August 16th, 2007 @ 1:22 pm by Mrs. Licorice

After writing my last post on lighting, I did some more research on Adam Frank Lumens. As lovely as these fixtures are, they will not create the lighting effect I need. There is a huge blank wall behind where I would like to place the head table, and the shadow produced by the Lumen will be quite small in comparision. I was prepared to suck up the price of a lighting professional, but they were booked on my wedding date! Ack! So, back to the drawing board!

My new plan is quite involved (not really): lots and lots of candlelight! My florist is adding tall candelabras for my blank walls, and I’m adding an almost ridiculous amount of candles for other areas of the reception room. I hope that the overall vibe will be romantic and dreamy, and I think the soft glow will make for pretty pictures. Who doesn’t look good in a dim room? Ha.

You can see the candelabras in the background of this picture. Image from European Floral Design.

For the wooded area of my reception site, I made hanging votives out of cheapie flower pot votive holders and silk flower wire.

The day-of-coordinator seemed very worried when I mentioned hanging candles anywhere near the trees. To calm her fears, I purchased battery-operated votives from Hobby Lobby.

If this is what your dentist office looks like, run!

This might be the smartest votive I’ve ever met.

I was concerned that the candle would look goofy inside the clear holder. I decided that it won’t be a problem with it lit outside. I don’t think my guests are going to closely examine the votives!

Beautiful idea! I love the idea of lots of romantic candlelight all over.

Be sure to purchase backup batteries for the votives! I purchased similar ones for use in my house and I had it on no more than about 30 mins before the battery died….but it could be that the batteries were old to begin with…regardless, I’m sure your candelabras will look gorgeous!
