“Tony’s Girls”

August 17th, 2007 @ 3:18 pm by Mrs. Onion

Recently I posted a few proofs from my “intime” (aka boudoir) session with NY/NJ area photographer, Tony Yang. Tony is also a talented wedding photographer who photographed the stunning wedding of our very own Mrs. Ant. Well what I didn’t tell you is that I’d arranged a “marathon” shoot three nights in a row with two beautiful NY knotties. After the shoot we shared our proofs with each other and helped each other pick our “top 10″ that Tony would then post process. So here we are…we jokingly referred to ourselves as “Tony’s Girls,” but now the secret is out!First the beautiful knottie Soon2BeMrs.Kocal:

Next up, another beautiful knottie who wanted to remain anonymous — very mysterious she is! If you have any questions for her please direct them to me at onion@weddingbee.com.

And here are a few more of my proofs (you can see the first few from my last post: “Intime Proofs are Here“).

We each did this as a gift for our fiances for our upcoming weddings. What we discovered along the way is that it was also a liberating experience for us and we are all so pleased to have this special time in our lives documented in this way. Hopefully when we all old and happily married our husbands will remember us this way!

Note: All proofs are untouched — Tony will be post processing 10 for each of us and I’ll post again with a few “before and after” photos.

All photographs from the talented Tony Yang. Learn more about his “intime” photography here, his wedding photography here and his recent work on his blog.

And lastly, “Tony’s girls” got together for dinner a few nights ago which was a blast! Here we are:

Any questions about the process, what to wear, to go alone or with someone else — whatever you are curious about — ask them here!

I know Soon2BeMrs.Kocal got her bride undies at her bridal shower (or lingerie shower — not sure if those were two different events for her) so she doesn’t know where they came from.

I got the purple number and the pink negligee (the thing I feel sexiest in for sure) at VS actually. And the man’s shirt is, of course, Mr. Onion’s shirt! Added familiarity is a bonus. The cherry dress I’m wearing is a Nanette Lepore and is one of Mr. Onion’s favorite of my dresses.

I think we each got 5 outfits in during our 2 hours session.

Perhaps the rest of “Tony’s girls” will chime in with some answers to your questions!

My fiance is going to be so surprised!!

I third the question about male photographers… the one reason I’m hesitant to do this myself!

17.
B says:

uh… do you think your husband is okay with you posting this?

18.
Natakie16 says:

B, their husbands don’t own their bodies :)

Anyway, beautiful gorgeous, etc! I would never have the courage to do this, let alone post them on a public blog. But he does fantastic work and I am sure it was so much fun!

MCRBride says:

I think I’m the only one who would be nervous posting pics of myself like this online.

Especially when companies etc do background searches etc.

I’m I the only one?
Family, coworkers etc could just happen upon these…

mip says:

Does he tell you how to pose? I don’t know how to be that sexy!!

i agree with b, i wouldnt want my husband to show his stuff online.

Wow — I didn’t think this would be so controversial. To answer a few questions – I don’t know what our fiancés would think about us posting these, but they don’t read weddingbee. I imagine they’d think “Wow, I’m the luckiest guy e-v-e-r!”

As far as companies and background checks – pa’sha! And besides that’s why Weddingbee has anonymous names, right? As for posing for a male photographer – a professional is a professional – male or female. Would you think twice about hiring a fantastic wedding photographer because of their gender? The bottom line is if you don’t think you’d be comfortable with a male photographer, then then this is not for you.

As far as going it alone or with someone else — I know that our anonymous knottie brought her make-up artist who she adores with her. Soon2BeMrs.Kocal and I went alone and that was fine too.

Jennifer – I’m so excited for you for your shoot with Tony. Let me know how it goes!

mip – Tony definitely helped me pose with simple directions like “move your hips that way” or “look down.” I think I would have felt a little more prepared to just turn on the sex appeal if I’d posed a bit in front of a mirror at home – if you’re nervous that would be my advice.

Photos turned out nice. Totally not for me, tho. My DH has all these pictures in his head only. :)

You did previously post about your profession:
http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/07/13/better-together-yes-we-are/

That has your website.

You’re probably already aware and ok with it being out there.

26.
K says:

I love how people think that they are “anonymous” on the Internet. Miss Onion, I hope you asked these women if they were okay with getting blogged on the Internet.

27.
b says:

The first knottie has her pictures in her own profile (a public website) so I’m sure she is okay with it. And if the other wanted to remain nameless, you would think that choice was made AFTER Miss Onion asked if it was okay.

28.

Miss Onion says:

1) yes, i’m aware i’ve blogged about my profession — that was a conscious choice and i’m fine with that.

2) of COURSE i asked their permission. thanks “b” — you are correct — the first knottie has them in her profile and the second opted to not have her knot bio linked and i respected their wishes.

3) i personally don’t think there is anything scandalous about any of the images that i posted — mine or theirs. most woman show more skin on the beach in a bikini! i think they are beautiful woman and should be proud of their bodies.

4) the reason for this post wasn’t to show off — i wanted to share about a wedding related experience that three brides shared. we thought other girls might be considering this as a present for their fiancés/husbands, but might be unsure as they didn’t know what to expect.

5) i understand this isn’t for everyone — which is FINE. just passing the information along and you can make of it what you will.

6) thank you to all of you who shared their thoughts and positive feedback. glad to share, as always, with the weddingbee community.

Sarah says:

Thanks miss onion-i would usually be too shy but i might consider doing something like this-i live in nyc too so maybe i could go with Tony!

AmandaB says:

I wouldn’t be worried about posting these for background searches… no “real” name is attached to Miss Onion’s blog (and pictures).

I support Miss Onion’s decision! I’m sure she has thought this through…

Soon2BMrs.Kocal says:

Hi Ladies!

Thanks for all the kind words! It really was a great experience and I am so glad I did it! If anyone is on the fence about doing a shoot like this - go for it!! You’ll be so glad you did!

As far as posting these on the internet - puhlease! I am not a shy person! I’m sure there are pictures of me topless at Woodstock ‘99 floating around somewhere on the internet, so I’m not too worried about these. ;-)

And I’m also not concerned that future employers will find a picture of me in my underwear and not hire me. In fact, when I wanted help picking my top ten, the first person I sent my proofs to was my boss (yes, we are very good friends, and she’s female) and then my entire bridal party and other assorted friends.

Honestly, almost none of my pictures were more revealing than anything you’d see me in at the beach, and of course I would NEVER put the few that were revealing on the internet! Come on!

And OF COURSE we gave Miss Onion permission to post these! She’s not some pervy budoir pic stalker - she’s our friend! In fact, the three of us have become really close through this whole experience, and they are both great girls and I’m glad we’ve had the opportunity to get to know each other.

If you don’t like the pics, then they are just not for you. That’s fine. But let’s keep things in perspective - posting a few pics of us in our bra and panties (which is the equivalent of posting pics of us in our bathing suits, let’s not forget) is not going to ruin our lives….

Again, thanks for all the positive feedback!

creme_de_violet says:

Wow, the pictures are so hot and spicy!

33.
The Mysterious Knottie says:

Hi everyone!! WOW! Look at all this feedback!

I’m the last of “Tony’s Girls” chiming in here! Sorry I couldn’t post sooner as I’ve been up to my ears with stuffing, stamping, and sealing wedding invitations at FI’s apartment so there was no way I could get online to write about his wedding present!

Here are my thoughts:

I chose to take boudoir pictures for two reasons: 1) my fiancé tells me every day that I’m beautiful and I wanted to give him something that expresses how he and I both feel about myself and 2) I wanted an opportunity to be free of society’s shackles that tells women that our bodies are not perfect, that we need to be ashamed of them and hide them. Posing in front of the camera in this way was one of the most liberating and exhilarating experiences of my life because it was a physical, emotional, and spiritual celebration of myself. I was flying high for days!!

With that said, I wasn’t going to pose in front of just any photographer. I knew I wanted someone who was talented, creative, collaborative, and down-to-earth. Ultimately, I wanted someone I could TRUST. For this reason, I went with Tony who is also the photographer for our wedding. Tony’s work speaks for itself. I always respond with a strong visceral reaction each and every time I look at his photos, which instinctively tells me that I feel connected to him. Shouldn’t this true for anybody you hire??? That connection translates into the camera and into the pictures. Trust allows the creativity to flow and takes the outcome to the next level. It’s really as simple as that.

Tony & I collaborated prior to the shoot and talked about my vision and ideas. The outfits I decided to bring were: two lingerie sets, thigh high fishnet stockings and my high black heels, my fiancé’s white buttoned-down shirt, and my birthday suit!! ;) The day of the shoot, Tony told me how to pose, when to look at the camera and when to look away, how to move my hips, etc. He started me off and then I made small movements to vary the pose. I brought my own music that put me in a sexy, playful mood, which helped a lot! I also brought my make-up artist who I adore. With two professional men in the room, I did not feel one bit uncomfortable. Professionals are professionals; they don’t ogle or look at you lustfully for goodness sakes! They’ve seen thousands of bodies, yours will be just another one on their long list.

Taking boudoir pictures is not for everyone. It’s up to you to decide what your comfort level is and how far you want to take it. Tony writes on his intime page, “A great photo shoot results from great chemistry between the photographer and subject. Inhibitions will only result in roadblocks and limit the creativeness of the project.” He’s absolutely right. Even though you can’t see my photos, I have to admit that I’m so very happy with the quality of my pictures because they are very steamy!!

I bought my lingerie at two stores in NYC, Mixona and Le Petite Coquette. Both places had a large selection and very helpful salespeople who showed me really good outfits after I explained the purpose for my shopping excursion. I highly recommend them if you are looking for something sexy.

As for posting these pics on the internet? What you see here is no different from what you see on Victoria’s Secret or on the beach. Of course Miss Onion asked for our permission!!! After she asked, I chose not to include my name or post anything too revealing.

What will future employers say? They can’t dictate what I do on my own time. These pictures in no way impede on the quality or efficiency of the work that I would do for any employer. I’m not coming to the office drunk or high. And from the celebrity precedents we’ve seen, sexy pictures only help a woman’s career; it doesn’t hurt it.

What will my fiancé say? He’s going to say, “Dang! I’m the luckiest guy on earth to be with one HOT lady!”

Sara says:

How far in advance do you have to book this sort of thing with Tony? I am interested! My wedding just under a month away-am I too late?

35.
The Mysterious Knottie says:

Hi Sara,
Your wedding under a month…hmm…it may be too late. Why don’t you contact Tony and find out.

Here are a few things to keep in mind: you have to schedule the session and after the pictures are taken, Tony has to sort through all the pics and do a first cut, he puts those that made the cut on an online private gallery, you choose the 10 you want retouched, he retouches them, and then sends them back to you on a CD.

In our experience, it took 6 weeks from start (emailing Tony our interest) to finish (getting our post-processed pics). Thanks to recent exposure, he has been flooded with requests so I suspect this process I just outlined will take a bit longer.

How about doing them as an anniversary present?

L says:

“They can’t dictate what I do on my own time.”

You must not work in the corporate world, b/c they most certainly can. They can fire you. I’ve seen it happen. Look what happened to the girl from NJ who was Miss America - not fired but lots of scandal and those pics were from Facebook. I’ve seen it happen to newscasters, and the head of HR for my firm.

37.
Jayden says:

I agree - watch out!

Thanks for the post. It was great to hear from 3 different women who have had sessions with Tony. I am really looking forward to mine in a couple weeks.

miss onion, i second what mrs. bee said… the second picture is sooo gorgeous and it has so much personality! oh and the other two ladies’ pics turned out fabulous as well!

41.
Sara says:

I emailed Tony several days ago and I have gotten no response! How long did it take him to get back to you all?

42.
Petra says:

Let’s face it ladies, we’re not going to be wrinkle-free, slim, and ‘perky’ forever. (But we will always be gorgeous!) Hubbies, aside, it’s not a bad idea to take photos for your own documentation in my opinion (a la Samantha in Sex In The City?). Anyhow, Tony Yang is is young, and bursting with this amazing talent + completely professional in the way that he treats his subjects. I’m pretty timid myself but I felt very comfortable with own session last week and have some amazing photos to show for it now. I wouldn’t be surprised if his day-rate skyrockets in the coming years and he makes a name for himself in a big way. He’s already overbooked from what he told me (thanks in part, to weddingbee LOL). And if you’re dumb enough to post your photo session on Facebook or any internet venue then that’s your problem. I really don’t think that anyone should resist doing this for fear of losing their job!?

43.
Miss Onion says:

sarah — tony is really busy as a result of all the buzz created here on weddingbee! that being said, feel free to email me at onion@weddingbee.com and i’ll send you his email address (instead of posting on his website). worst case scenerio — it would be a GREAT 1 year anniversary gift.

44.
The Mysterious Knottie says:

Petra, it’s wonderful to hear that you had an amazing experience with Tony also!!! Words can’t describe how I feel about how talented and so very down-to-earth he is. I \hope one day he does make a name for himself b/c he’s been blessed with such a wonderful gift!

45.
Andrea says:

I just booked a session with Tony and was a little nervous about the whole experience, but I feel good about it having read all the positive feedback. If anyone has any advice for a boudoir “newbie,” I’m all ears!
