Am I A Bad Friend?

August 20th, 2007 @ 1:23 pm by Mrs. Licorice

I really wanted to present my bridesmaids with Coach Wristlets as their bridesmaid gift. I had to pay for these myself, and with a part-time job at a clothing store, I had to save up! When the time came to purchase, I wasn’t in love with the wristlets available for what I could afford. I decided to trek to the Coach Factory store to see what they had. I found four large wristlets in four different styles that truly reflect their intended owners.

The prices were great! It left me with plenty of money for their manicure/pedicure party and to have their hair done. My only problem is this: is it bad that I will be prancing around in an expensive gown (which I did not buy) while they are carrying bags that came from an outlet? I’m not at all turning my nose up at outlet shopping; I just want to know if these are gift-worthy?

The Coach wristlets are totally gift-worthy! I have the signature one and use it all the time. I think those combined with the mani/pedi party is great! :)

Oh, please. Where do you think I got my BM’s Coach gifts, with money to spare for some extra goodies. Don’t have a complex over it — you’ve saved money and found something awesome!

All of them are so cute - I think they’re totally gift-worthy! Especially since these aren’t the only gift for your girls - Coach wristlets on top of the mani/pedi party and hair is very generous imo. And I love that you chose different styles appropriate to each girl - how thoughtful and personal! Besides, who will know they came from an outlet except you? It’s not like you got them complete ripoff versions from a guy on the street or something. Great find!

Are you kidding?? It’s not like you bought fake ones from some street vendor on the corner! These are waaay cute and they’ll be happy about the pedicures with the money you saved!

I had to chuckle at this but that’s where I ended up going to part of my BM’s swag bag gifts!

Hooray for bargains!

It is a very generous gift that you are giving your bridesmaids, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with giving them something that came from an outlet.

Are you kidding? No worries they look awesome, and if they do have a complex, I’ll sign up to be your bridemaid. A girl could only be so lucky!

Absolutely! Who cares where you got them? Outlet stores these days are not the same as they used to be (clothes with weird imperfections etc.) Besides, it isn’t about the cost, it’s about the thought that goes into them.

seriously, i agree with the other posters…all of my expensive purses have come from outlets or even the post exchange at the army base! they’re all still very lovely too [i get compliments from the coach employees all the time]. it’s fine and a great smart buy. as long as it’s the real deal, it doesn’t matter where they came from. so relax. would it matter if you bought your dress from a discount outlet? it would still be wonderful right? same thing applies.

I was a bridesmaid in October and I got a silver monogram necklace from Things Remembered. I left it in my bathroom for a couple weeks and it’s totally rusted right now! I would have loved to receive anything Coach, even a keychain! lol

You’ve got to be joking. The gift is awesome. And why does it matter where they came from? They’re Coach and they’re real. I do most of my shopping at outlets and TJ Maxx and would never be ashamed to admit it.

If you’re truly embarassed then just don’t tell them where they came from.

Haha, ditto what everyone else said. Seriously, I’d be thankful to receive any gift, let alone an adorable Coach wristlet. Plus, I’d genuinely appreciate you considering my style and putting so much thought into all these gifts. I would much rather receive a bag I have a preference for, that came from the outlet, rather than one with a design I wasn’t so fond of, that came from the “regular” store.

Can I be your friend? ;)

I think that if you buy them a nice present at a cheaper price, there is nothing wrong with that. I bought my girls MAC lipglasses (new) on ebay for cheaper than I could have bought them in store.

To echo the rest of the peanut gallery, the gifts are awesome, they look great and coupled with the mani/pedi thing, it’s super generous.
Don’t feel bad for a second! You’re definitely doing right by your girls!

just made you a great shopper. why give the extra $ to coach while you can use that on your friend mani/pedicure sessions? make so much more sense. congrats on great fine.

I thought about doing the same thing, but ultimately went with something else. Would have done both if I could afford it!

You done good!

ha! thanks for the idea - I’m so getting my girls wristlets from the outlet now :)

I’ve been in MANY weddings and have never gotten much more than fake pearls. This is wonderful!

They are so cute! You don’t have to tell them they are from an outlet if that bothers you. Just because you saved a little doesn’t mean you are any less of a friend.

just an FYI about coach outlets.

coach actually uses its outlets to test out and experiment new products, apparently. in addition to selling the back supply of coach items from the retail stores, the outlets carry items specifically to only sell in the outlets and some that will be in reverse (first at outlet, then at retail stores).

so, if you pay attention at the outlets, you will notice many items that you’ve never seen in the retail locations. coach outlets are a rarity in this case, so if anything, they might be getting things that aren’t even FOUND in stores.

chill out! ;)
