That Darn Dean!

August 20th, 2007 @ 2:10 pm by Mrs. Butterscotch

We are very lucky that hurricane Dean has passed over our honeymoon location. I almost feel like we should be wiping our brows with a “phew”. Our final two choices were Mexico or the Virgin Islands, and the only reason we didn’t choose Mexico is because we knew we could easily get there one day. But I cannot even imagine how frustrating it is for everyone else that has their honeymoons hanging in the balance.

Does anyone else have a honeymoon back up plan?

I’m supposed to be heading to Riviera Maya, Mexico on 9/2. We’ll see if that happens! Luckily, we did book travel insurance because we knew it was a possibility and we may have to reschedule it. The bad thing is, we’ll have to use it by the end of the year which means we’ll have to go back to work right after the wedding in order to use our vacation time later in the year. Sucks! Hopefully, it’ll miss us - but it isn’t looking too good right now!

We are supposed to go to Playa del Carmen on September 18th. We just bought travel insurance, so I guess that’s our backup plan. My thoughts are with everyone who lives down there, here’s hoping for a miss!

We’re supposed to be heading to Riviera Maya in exactly one week - on Monday, August 27th. What a disaster. We’re keeping a watch on the storm, and have our travel agent on speed dial in the event that the peninsula gets hit hard. I don’t know what our other options are. St. Lucia? Turks and Caicos? Puetro Vallarta? And suggestions!?

Our wedding and honeymoon are set for Grand Cayman at the end of October — questionable cleanup time if the Caymans had received a direct hit, but so far it looks like they/we got very lucky! Very happy today.

We’re going to Puerto Rico in January and when the storm was looking like it was going to touch Puerto Rico, I started getting nervous. I pray that it’s not touched this hurricane season!

We’re supposed to be heading to Playa del Carmen early November (6-13), so we’re just waiting to see what happens. If it’s a direct hit, we’re going to switch to another island. Maybe PR. I just hope there’s not major destruction and that they’re all safe down there.

i just got back from my honeymoon in jamaica, and let me tell you, it was intense! my hubby and i had planned on leaving on saturday all along, and that ended up being a blessing, since we avoided scrambling to get a flight back, or standing at the airport for hours, desparately hoping to get on a standby flight. hearing that the island you’ve stayed on for the past few days might soon be utterly destroyed is a scary thing, and i pray for all of the citizens of jamaica, as well as any tourists unable to get a flight out.

i hope all of you planning your honeymoons have luck, but having seen people STILL ARRIVING in jamaica the day before the hurricane struck, i implore you to remember–a vacation can be replanned, a life cannot be replaced.

We are supposed to be going to Jamaica in 2 months. Hopefully it can be all cleaned up but we have insurance in case it does not. I can not even find info though on how bad it is down there since it was right in the middle of the storms path.

Just wanted to drop a note to say, that I would be more than happy to give you some quick Honeymoon back up options. I am a travel agent and 50% of what i do is help couples make destination dreams come true.. always keeping budget in mind. There are so many different ways to get to the same place… but only a Travel agent can give you all the extra’s and perks that a co-op can offer.
