About Mrs. Daffodil

Hello From Miss Daffodil!

August 21st, 2007 @ 10:31 am by Mrs. Daffodil

First off, I am so incredibly thrilled to be a bee! When Mrs. Bee informed me of the great news, I was practically bouncing off the walls at work! I was first introduced to Weddingbee by one of my bridesmaids, Fran, who was going through the wedding planning process herself at the time. After I got engaged, I became an avid reader and discovered what an inspiring, creative and supportive community it is!

For my introductory post, I thought I would share a little bit about Mr. Daffodil and myself and why I chose “Miss Daffodil.”

It was a shock to everyone when Mr. Daffodil and I first started dating. As mentioned in my intro, we are living proof that “just friends” can turn into much more! We met in college in the South and were part of the same tight-knit group of friends for ~3 years. It wasn’t until shortly after Mr. Daffodil had graduated and already moved back to the West Coast that our relationship even began! Call him sweet or call him crazy, he decided to move back to our university to pursue a year of research (but really so that we could be together for my senior year smiley407).

When we first started dating, we would often remark how we wished we had gotten together earlier so that we could’ve shared our college experience as a couple. However, looking back, we wouldn’t have had it any other way. Our college memories are filled not only with our experiences together but also that of our closest friends! Plus, it was so different and awesome to start a relationship already knowing so much about who the other person really is – all their qualities, their faults, their past, their hopes, their values. And knowing that he wasn’t just trying to impress me! We started out with a depth and trust that neither of us had had in any previous relationship. Furthermore, it was just so wonderful to be surrounded by a community of close friends who could support and nurture our relationship (once they got over the initial shock, of course!).

We’ve been dating for four years now, over half of which was long distance. We can’t wait to get married next Spring and finally live together in the same city!

Other tidbits about us: we loooove dogs, we love to dance (or at least I do and Mr. Daffodil just likes seeing me get excited about it), we love Japanese food, and we love God! We have a lop rabbit named Sammi, and we are planning to get two dogs shortly after we get married.

So why “Miss Daffodil”?

I’m not using any daffodils for the wedding, but I have always loved daffodils growing up! When I was little, my mom grew daffodils outside the front of our house that would bloom in the Spring. The vibrant color is enough to brighten up anyone’s day. They are also a symbol of joy and happiness, which is what I hope our wedding day will be like!

There’s also a cute story we have that involves daffodils. Mr. Daffodil knew that I liked them, so when we first started dating, he thought he would surprise me by getting me some of those mini-daffodils that grow in a pot. Bless his heart, but he went around asking everyone for “dandelions”! After much confusion, several florists later, and with the help of one of my girl friends, he finally got across that he meant daffodils and managed to surprise me after all smiley1057.

So that’s a little bit about us! I hope that my posts-to-come will offer y’all as much inspiration and advice as I’ve gotten through the bees that preceded me.

Cheers and welcome. Mr. Onion and I were also friends for many years (in fact we met when we were 4 and 5 years old) before there was any romantic spark. I wouldn’t trade the earlier friendship time for anything.

Welcome! That story is so cute! It reminded me of our first date - he knew I liked all things Hawaiian, so he actually gave me a lei instead of a bouquet of flowers! I didn’t wear it since we were going to dinner and a movie, but I still have it in the original box he gave me almost 4 years ago. =) Hey, and I split my time between NorCal and SoCal, too. Can’t wait for your posts!
