Beehive

August 22nd, 2007 @ 4:29 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Julie wants to know - if you displayed an engagement portrait, what size did you use?  She needs to order one but doesn’t want one that’s too small or too huge for the house afterwards.
  2. Jamie is trying to figure out food for the cocktail hour.  Is 3 hors d’oeuvres per person too little for a one hour cocktail hour?  For the same money she can have 6 bites or 2 bites w/ a fruit display.  What would you recommend?
  3. Lisa is looking for a paper store that delivers to Canada.  She needs 8.5 x 11″ pearlized cardstock for her programs, and can only find it for $1/sheet in Canada which seems high.
  4. Beth is having a fall themed wedding with reds, golds, browns, etc.  She has gold chivari chairs and is torn between gold or silver candelabra centerpieces.  Everyone says silver, but she’s afraid they will look weird with the gold chairs, silver doesn’t seem fallish, and people are telling her gold candelabras look cheap and out-dated. Advice?
  5. card stock help! is looking for non-metallic dark gray cardstock (80# or more) online or in NYC.  She’s checked out all the usual suspects without any luck.
  6. grace wants to know if etiquette dictates she send invitations to the people in the wedding party?  Does she have to send one to a married couple even though the husband is a groomsman?
  7. lynn is looking for a one page spreadsheet that can be printed the day of the wedding with just the key info - phone numbers of all involved and columns for where everyone is at any give time.

Beth, i say go with gold. gold is becoming more fashionable these days. i’m using bronze for my fall wedding and i think it looks classy, and i’m normally a “definitely silver” kind of girl!

Grace - always give an invite to everyone invited and involved - ESPECIALLY your wedding party. They want a memento of the day!

CardStock help - Paper Source has grey - its not super dark but worth a try

Nashgirl - I am normally a silver or white gold kind of girl, but I too think the gold will look better! Thanks for your input!

beth - i would go with gold as well. it will complement the rest of the colors better.

grace - unless its cost prohibitive, i would send an invitation to everyone in your wedding party. It’s a nice momento and everyone else is getting an invite so why shouldn’t the ppl doing actual work for the wedding!

Lisa — there is also paperpresentation.com — not sure if they ship to Canada, but have great prices and lots of selection!

Lisa: check out http://www.envelopemall.com/

Grace: if they are in the wedding… they are invited…thus you have to send them one.

Lynn, check out http://weddings.shanbritedesigns.com/templates.htm . it was a link that was shown on weddingbee a while ago. They might have something on there, I found my timeline from there! :)

I am planning my friend’s bridal shower and I will be making the flower arrangments myself.

I need some simple, FAST, and easy ideas for arrangements. I really liked when Martha Stewart submerged the flowers in the water…(it was the cherry blossom, and tulip). If I submerge flowers in water, wouldn’t it float? I do not want to add stones to the bottom of the vase.

If anyone can help me with simple, fast and stunning center pieces. I literally have to do 10 centerpieces in one hour ..I’m waking up at the crack of dawn to purchase flowers in the Los Angeles Flowermart. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jamie, I think that 3 pieces/person should be fine if you are serving a full meal afterwards. Recommendations that I’ve seen say 3 to 5 a person.

Jaime,

personal opinion, 3 per person sounds low… especially if there is drinking involved, you may want people to have a little food in their bellies. i’m sure some people won’t eat three, but then you’re bound to have a bunch that may eat four or five and then you’ll run out.

Grace–I was a bridesmaid at my brother’s wedding, and never got an invitation. I got one to the bridal shower, though! Always send an invite to anyone you want to come!

Does anyone know what an appropriate corkage fee is? We’re not bringing any alcohol into our reception site but they still want to charge us between $6.50 and $9.50 per person as a corkage fee on top of getting 15% gratuity on the sale of alcohol.

Jenny K– A friend submerged one spray of magenta orchids and one palm frond behind it in a tall cylindrical vase full of water, floated one floating candle at the top of the vase, and put a sprinkling of black river rocks at the bottom for contrast. Rocks not necessary if you don’t like them. The orchids did not float when fully submerged.

Grace– Etiquette does dictate that you send an invite, but bridal party will probably not be offended if they don’t get one, if you are trying to save money.

How do I make an inspiration board? I see them on all the blogs, and I feel like it would be helpful.
