About Mrs. Petunia

The French Connection

August 22nd, 2007 @ 12:34 pm by Mrs. Petunia

Yet again, I’m sure I’m making Ms. Post’s head spin.

My MOH and FMIL have offered to host my bridal shower, but my FMIL says it’s not proper etiquette for her to do so, so we’re just going to tell people it’s my future sister-in-law running the show (but we’ll both know who’ll be the woman behind the curtain).

I’ve heard other people say that the shower is also supposed to be a surprise to me, but I can’t seem to keep my nosy nose out of it. As such, I have discovered that since we are planning on going to Paris for our honeymoon, they are planning a “Paris” theme shower for me. I heard this and thought ooh lah lah: what will moi wear?

And just like that, how quickly these shoes appeared before me, beckoning to be bought (I first saw them online at Zappos, but actually found them on sale — cheaper! — at my local Charles David store):

(To my eye, they had France written all over them!)

And as corny as it seems, I’m totally going to rock this chapeau:

Now to find the perfect dress. Are any of these Parisian enough?

Oh! I that first dress really screams Paris to me! Especially with those shoes and that hat.
The third and fifth dresses are also very nice.

Oh I love the first dress! It seems very va-va-voom Paris to me, especially with those shoes and that hat. The third has a lot of style as well, if you’re worried about your vamp factor…

i think the first might be a little too sexy for your bridal shower.
i love 2 but i think that length with the shoes might also be a bit much.
i think 3 and 4 would both be awesome with the shoes and for the occasion, it just depends on what look you’re going for. 3 would be a bit more sophisticated while 4 seems very fun, young french girl.

Second from the bottom, that is the most french to moi! plus one is more eveningwear, it looks like a hot cocktail dress, is your shower during the day?

Moi

Oui! Except the last dress seems a little Grecian, and the 2nd one a little “French maid” :) First dress looks like the French siren in the Matrix Reloaded.

Are you going high-fashion French, beatnik French, revolutionary French, country French? Another inspiration — Marie Antoinette. Check out the recent movie…

I love the first one and the last one! The 4th one seems very “French” to me but I don’t particularly like it.

Numbers 1 and 3 are my faves. Although #1 could look a little out of place at a casual daytime shower. I think three is stunning and will look perfect in any situation. You can dress it up or down and will probably have more chances to wear it.

Where did you find these? I want!!

oh i love the 2nd one best!!! it’s so cute and flirty! perfect for the shower. i too, think that the first one is a bit too slinky for the shower, unless it’s an evening cocktail shower anyway. and i love the shoes!

Um, who says the shower has to be a surprise? I hate surprises. I must have missed that memo because I know about mine! :-)

LOL, the hat is just for effect. I’m sure I’ll wear it for five minutes to get a picture and call it a day. I can’t imagine wearing it in Paris though; they’ll point at me and go: there goes the tourist! a la Griswold European Vacation.

The shower will be daytime, so yes, dress one may be a bit much. And worse! Dresses 1 & 2 are Betsey Johnson, and now I can only seem to find them online in Black, so there goes that…

I’m thinking now, too, that the cut on dress #3 will not be flattering to my boobies either. #s 4 and 5 are from Nordstrom, but I first encountered these dresses a while back and now worried I won’t be able to find - boo hoo! #4 is the Marc Jacob’s and #5 Graham and Spencer. I can still buy that one and on sale, too, for $54.90!!

By the way, if anybody sees anything else out there that may fit the bill, I’d love it if you could drop me a line! You guys are awesome for looking at these in the first place!

Love 4 and 5. Also, my aunt says it’s customary for aunts to plan showers. I’m totally confused with everyone expecting to host things when I’d rather say it was hosted by the MOH, but in actuality planned by me!

btw.. i’m totally broke and i shop for my dresses at target. take a look online, you might see what you like. you can always return it at any target store if you don’t like it and shipping is free if you spend over $50. i also search around for 10% off coupon codes so it’s actually better than if you’re shopping in-store!

I’ve never commented 3 times in a row before, you must be sick of seeing my name. I want to suggest bluefly.com or shopbop as well.
