Mrs. Pearl's Picture
Mrs. Pearl, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 26, High school history teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, Software engineer Engagement Date: No official date, we just decided :-) Wedding Date: July 2007 Venue: St. Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church, Ritz Carlton Huntington Hotel About Me: Mr. Pearl and I have been together for about four and a half years now. We've been "engaged" since 2004 and were originally supposed to get married in June 2006, but postponed the wedding to July 2007. I love shopping for housewares and office supplies, music, reading chick lit, football, and the diverse world of Los Angeles dining.
About Mrs. Pearl

1. He thoughtfully cleans up the mess from me making dinner, even though he didn’t eat what I made.

2. He takes me to 7-11 at midnight to fill an ice cream craving.

3. When I bring home the supplies for an ice cream sundae (that I’ve been talking about for literally 2 weeks), he laughs that I bought light vanilla ice cream, but doesn’t judge.

4. He’ll take time out of his schedule to help me pack up and move my classroom.

5. He doesn’t care that I practically kill his Palm battery playing solitaire.

6. Because he tears up when he talks about his dog that passed away earlier this year at 12 years old.

7. He’ll always drive at night because he knows I’m nervous about doing so.

8. He gives incredible pep talks.

9. His “happy dance” is flippin’ genius!

10. Because he reads my blog . . . not because I ask him to, but because he cares.

We have a lot in common–teaching and ice cream cravings. ;-) So for me, your reasons aren’t that non-traditional… :-)

That’s sweet. . .but aren’t you always talking about how you’re trying to lose weight? Ice cream should be a no no (obviously).

Jordana, thanks for thinking of me! However, it’s not obvious to me why certain things would be “no no”[s]. There is a place for most things in moderation — don’t eat a carton of ice cream, but a scoop will often suffice. That mentality got me to lose about 40 lbs. before the wedding, so I think it’s going OK. Slow and steady and all that.

Awesome list, Mrs. Pearl! As for the ice cream, I have to say that I am also always trying to lose weight, and yet there are times when I just have to have a treat, even if I know it will kill my diet. And one of the many reasons I love my fiance is that he never tells me that I shouldn’t. I judge myself enough - he is there to support me, even if he knows I’ll regret the decision later.

That’s so sweet, Mrs Pearl! I think on the train home tonight I’ll write one up for my husband. Thanks for the idea!

PS–I lost over 100 lbs five years ago by allowing myself occasional indulgences like real ice cream. Diet food doesn’t work. The key is to eat real food, in moderation, and get plenty of exercise. Good luck with the weight loss (or maintenance.)

I wish I had this list prior to our wedding. I would have negotiated for a larger dowry with it. :)

Anyway, my happy dance should have been ranked higher. It is pure genius but it also shows my pure athletic talent. I might be a big boy but still I am quick like a cat and, everyone knows, you can’t teach that.

However, I do agree with the underlying premise of your blog entry… I am pretty fricking adorable.

And this is what happens when Mr. Pearl doesn’t pay attention to the fact that I’m signed into Weddingbee on his computer. I look like I’m talking to myself . . .
