Birds!

August 23rd, 2007 @ 12:57 pm by Mrs. Bee

Update: More birds added!

~~~
You guys loved the idea of birds as our next batch of characters, so now we just need to decide which ones!
Here’s an interesting tidbit I found out while googling bird images - the white doves that are released at weddings are not really doves; they’re actually white homing pigeons who are much stronger flyers and will return home!
Now on to the task at hand - please help us choose 10 birds for our next batch of characters!
Lovebirds and Chicakadee
lovebirds.jpgchickadee.jpg
Crane and Oriole and Quail
crane.jpgoriole.jpgquail.jpg
Hummingbird and Peacock
hummingbird.jpgpeacock.jpg
Cockatiel and Penguin
cockatiel.jpgemperor_penguin.jpg
Ostrich and Swan
ostrich.jpgswan.jpg
Dove (also in white) and Bluebird
dove.jpgbluebird20acr2.jpg
Parakeet and Parrot/Macaw
parakeet.jpgparrot.jpgmacaw.jpg
Toucan and Robin
toucan.jpgrobin.jpg
Canary and Chick
Cardinal and Woodpecker
Duck and Flamingo
We’re looking for a good color variety, birds that don’t look too similar and birds that you’d actually want to be, so tell us your top ten picks!  (Feel free to also suggest more additions!)
What about a type of Finch, there are so many varieties of colors.
I adore the lovebirds. The peacock and penguin are also very cute. So is the flamingo.
Also check out Sun Conure: http://z.about.com/d/birds/1/0/D/-/-/-/PC100011.JPG
They are so pretty.
Also you have the blue and gold macaw under parrot but there is the scarlet as well which is pretty.
So pretty!
I like:
Peacock, penquin, swan, dove, chick, duck and flamingo.
I would be sooooo crazy thrilled to be Miss Mallard (the duck you have listed). Ducks are great! Of course, the one in the picture is the male of the species, but they are the prettier ones.
Anyway. Babbling. :) The birds are beautiful!
Man, I can’t pick.
I do know… Miss Chick sounds weird. I’d go canary for that one.
I think Lovebird, Flamingo, Toucan, Penguin, Swan, Robin and Woodpecker!
Honestly, I love the bluebird.
There are a lot of great suggestions here! I have one more… Jacana… it is a colorful bird and one of the few animals where the female has a harem of males that watch her eggs within her territory. LOL! They crack me up!!
Miss Turkey — funny, Miss Snow Pea! She would be a healthy but sleepy November bride.
Miss Chicken/Chick makes me think of KFC…
Would Miss Grey Goose be a bird or a drink?
Would Miss Quail be a Republican? (Yeah, Quayle, I know…)
Peacock, hummingbird, penguin, toucan, swan, cardinal, canary, flamingo, lovebird, parrot.
Love them! I also like robin and parakeet, and I agree that Miss Chick is kind of weird and we have too many “blue-” Mrs. already so perhaps no Miss Bluebird.
How about the beautiful crowned crane — also suits Asian themes!
P.S. What happens when Miss Peacock gets married… Will it be Mrs. Peacock in the billiard room with the candlestick!?
i don’t think anyone wants to be miss turkey. ;)
and i love the bluebird, but you’re right that we already have so many “blue” characters…
any other blue birds besides the “blue” jay?
and i like the goose, but do you think it’ll look too similar to the swan?
How about the Canada goose which has a distinct coloring.
Also, maybe this doesn’t matter, but isn’t it mostly the male birds that have the beautiful colors and feathers, and the females are more plain? But WB would use the more distinct males for the icons?
Aw, just saw you updated your list (yes, I’ve already posted once) and wanted to add that I love the Chickadee… much improved over the chick, even though it was so darling. My FH calls me his little chickadee, though I didn’t know it was an actual bird!
You could use a bluejay picture and call it “Miss Jay.”
A lot of the birds you’ve pictured are the males of the species: the oriole, the peacock, the ostrich, the cardinal, the mallard, I’m not sure about the quail. Does that matter? Also, European robins and American robins are different. You’ve pictured a European robin. I guess they are cuter…
I love robins, but I prefer American robins to the English (or European?) robin you have pictures.
Pheasants are absolutely gorgeous, but when it comes down to it, they’re game birds - along with ducks, geese, quail and turkey. I might stay away from the birds that people hunt.
Peacock is a shade of blue, as is robins-egg. That way, you can steer clear of blue-something names.
How about a mockingbird?
Top 10 Listed:
lovebird, chickadee, oriole, hummingbird, peacock, penguin, swan, robin, canary, cardinal
ECLECTUS PARROTS!
These are my babies:
http://flickr.com/photos/blackscorpio/sets/72057594095614711/
These parrots are dimorphic, meaning the females are readily distinguishable from the males. The Red eclectus are female. The Green eclectus are male. Mine talk up a storm! They have daily chatters such as:
“Hi, Bebe”
“How are you?”
“Whatcha doin’?”
“Coca Cola”
“Holy crap!”
=D
I like maverika’s format:
Red: Cardinal
Orange: an orange paper Crane
Yellow: rubber Ducky
Green: Hummingbird
Blue: Bluebird or Heron
Purple: Peacock
Pink: Flamingo
Brown: Owl or Mockingbird
White: Dove
Black: Raven
i enjoy the sound of “Miss Swan” (MadTV) and “Miss Jay” (ANTM) and i like the idea of a predatory bird like Eagle/Falcon/Hawk, but i don’t know if anyone would want to be those.
