Invitation Melt..er.. Breakdown.

August 23rd, 2007 @ 10:31 am by Mrs. Gummi Bear

The last bit of our invitations arrived today!

Our box tags with our guests’ names written on them by Bluebird Studios. Rebecca is wonderful and really responsive, not to mention fast! I absolutely love the tags, and she was so sweet when I asked her to write some names more clearly for my non-native english speaking family. They’re perfect! And so nice, she put a few with our names on it!

We tied the labels onto the boxes with our twine, separated the ones that were going out of town and stuffed them into boxes with some shredded excelsior for packing material. Turns out Mr. GB is allergic to it… heehee. I made him stuff them, not for that reason, but I still find it amusing with him sniffing and sneezing. I made these address labels the night before with photoshop and some copy and pasting into word, then we put the ones that are going out of town and slapped them onto the brown paper packaging. Note the cute tape on the sides, I couldn’t just let them go normally, that would be too easy and much less hassle. We all know that I love a reason to complain!

And now they’re all packaged up. The 26 that we’re sending out and the rest stacked, ready to be hand delivered. In fact, we’re driving to Sacramento with some birch poles, a lot of pillows and fabric, and a stack of these invitations tonight. I’m more than relieved to say we’re done with these!

Oh, and we did end up going the vintage stamp route on the rsvps envelopes. Which made me wonder.. how does the usps know that your stamps are real? Can they identify ALL stamps from all years? I hope my rsvps come back to me… :(

For someone who can’t stand being crafty and diy, I do a whole lot of things I really don’t like doing under the pressing desire to have things be very personalized…

ps. thank you to the sweet woman who helped us at the lake park post office. She was so nice when we walked in with our two bags of packages, they had an assembly line for putting postage and stickers and made sure they went out with today’s truck!

I am in LOVE with your invitations and packaging. I also want to know how you bought the vintage stamps. Also, how did you get the rows of dots on the outside of the box. Thanks for sharing! :)

Wow, I love them!! And, as Jenn said, your rug is awesome! I want to hang on and sit on the rug and help tie boxes. Is that weird?!
I bet your guests will be delighted with the invites. I’ve always wondered that about older stamps, too… how do they know the stamps are legit? :O

Love ‘em..! Can we enter to win one of your wedding invitations? Or can you just invite us to your wedding also?? ;)

I know I should have asked in the candy entry you posted earlier but didn’t get a chance to… can you let us know where did you get the watermelon candy drops again? (the candies inside the boxes) Thanks!

my rug! it’s the anthropologie coqo rug… I live in anthropologie. from housewares to furniture to clothes - seriously. Mr. GB went there yesterday to ask if we could try the couch in our house for a week. :P

I goccoed all the box tops with a gocco-stamp-kit, I’m sure there is a blog about it ealier without photos because that was during my quasimodo bug-face invasion.

i bought my stamps on ebay, just looking online at cute old stamps and typed in the type/year/scott # and they would pop up. :) We bought ones with oak trees, cute animals, and of course - those super old bay bridge stamps. go sf/oakland!

and I have NO idea about the authenticity. I mean, I’m 99% sure mine are authentic, I looked a lot of photos and compared the tear-away parts… so I am about as sure about my stamps as i can be. But how do the post office employees know? How can they tell that my 50 or 60 year old stamp is legit and not just a weird print out? Mr. GB made up some cockamany story about watermarks or whatever, but even if that’s true, it’s probably in within the past 30 years, what about older stamps? :P I hope we get them back.

I’m sure you’ll get your RSVPs back. I don’t know how they know, but stamp dealers always use old stamps that are only worth face value for postage and they always get delivered. What a neat idea!

it turns out it’s about 4.60 to send the invites because of their nearly 1lbs weight. :( Otherwise I’d be happy to send out samples of the invites. Maybe Mrs. Bee for being totally awesome!

we got the candy online at Lehi Valley. Shipping was really fast and we have an extra 4lbs sitting in our kitchen. we’ll use it for something. :)

the tape is from a japanese company called “cram cream” I know, the name is weird - but I’m obsessed with their tape and buy tons of it.

Mrs. GB,

I am shameless doing the same invitation box idea as you- love it! Just received my boxes yesterday- woot! But anyways how did you address the tags to the people you were hand delivering to? What if someone gets a guest, did you put ” Dave & Guest” on the tag?
Sorry just wondering how we can nicely word this so people dont get confused. :)

So I am shamelessly stealing your box invitation idea :) my boxes arrived yesterday! woot! Anyways I was just wondering how did you address the tags for the people who you allowed to bring a guest? ie: Dave & Guest - on the tag? Just trying to find a clear way to make it known for the guests-any suggestions?
Thanks Mrs. GB!

I would love to do something like this for a shower, can you tell me where you purchased these boxes? I tried 800giftboxes.com and the website was not correct.

Thanks.
