To The Reception!

August 23rd, 2007 @ 4:52 pm by Mrs. Bluebell

When we got back from taking our portraits by the lake, our caterers, Stone Soup, had just rung the gong (yes, gong!) to summon people down the hill from the cocktail hour to the reception area. We went up to the top of the dirt path through the woods so that we could emerge from there instead of….over by the portapotties.

<All photos by Jane Heller.>

First, the gong (provided by Stone Soup since we were talking about how we weren’t sure how to get people from the house down to the field/tent, and hung in the cook tent.)

These lanterns were my pride and joy. I bought them because they were sooo cute and I had a vision of them lining the path through the woods. But…then it turned out that (a) there were a lot fewer trees lining the path than I remembered and (b) for no apparent reason, the lights all only had plugs on ONE END instead of both, so you can’t string them together?!?!?! That was incredibly upsetting and we were considering just doing one or two higher up and perpendicular to the path, but my uncle, brother, and family friend all teamed together and found a way to MAKE IT WORK!!! They strung lawnmower wire (like really really thick fishing line) allllll the way down the path and then attached the lanterns to the wire, AND attached a ton of extension cords to the middle of each pair of lantern cords. And much to surprise after resigning myself to just not getting that one thing I wanted - it came out exactly perfectly, even better than I was hoping for!!!

Thanks Kiwi & SBH! :-D

SBH - the lanterns are from Pearl River (www.pearlriver.com, although I got them at the store) I believe they are available on the website for $19.50 for 10 lights/12 feet and these are the light blue color. (I think mine were on sale though?) I think there are six strings in the pics here, but I can’t quite remember….
