Candyland

August 24th, 2007 @ 10:29 am by Mrs. Petunia

Mr. Petunia’s honor attendant recently started working for Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York, which is how I first learned about Ralph Lauren’s daughter’s store.

I’d been having a tough time coming up with a gift idea for the Petunias’ ring bearer (my nephew), mostly because he’s not super young and a lot of what is out there for RB’s, I think, is a bit baby-ish. My other option was to just buy him something he’s already obsessed with, which would be Nintendo games or DVD’s, but that would mean getting him more of what he already has.

I wanted to get him something fun and different. Then I checked out the Dylan website and found this:

It’s practically perfect because he loves candy (what kid doesn’t) and he’s really into baseball these days (the Florida Marlins even honored him and four other children just a few weeks ago for their involvement in local sports!).We’re not having a candy buffet, so I’m thinking the candy gift the day before won’t be overkill.

I do wonder: are those tennis balls at the bottom? Are they candy? And why aren’t they baseballs??? Maybe it’s for all sports enthusiasts?)

You can also get these other amazing gift baskets, but warning! They won’t come cheap:

This small one will cost you $79

 The medium goes for $129

And the large sells for $199 (Oh my!)

Another (more adorable and cheaper!) option is this Sweet Tooth arrangement, which costs $35

What fun stuff is everyone getting their ring boys (and flower girls)?

Yes, Dylan’s Candy Bar is notoriously expensive. The kids on the subway holding the signature plastic bags are usually pretty wired ~~~ be forwarned and maybe give kids candy AFTER they’ve done their ceremony duties, ha ha.

These candy bucket ideas would be very fun to make as DIY. Maybe use bucket/shovel sandbox kit. If the parents aren’t too keen on sugar, use granola bars, nuts, trail mix with carob chips, dried fruit, juice, etc.

ohohoh!
I did this for my sons birthday party and they were much cheaper. I bought candy in bulk at Costco and picked up the cutest retro candy lunchboxes( already filled with some candy) at Target for $1.Target has them right now as a matter of fact, I just saw them last Sunday. Lemonhead, Red Beans(?), Sour Patch, ect. You get the idea.
These are super fun!

Target always has cute retro and current metal lunch box perfect for this type of project. Those gift baskets are way too expensive for inexpensive candies imo. You can also get cute containers and different sweets from Cost Plus. I always go there for Easter and Halloween sweets for my nephew and niece. They have like a foot long container with red vines and jaw breakers.

Hi, I found some cheap clear backpacks that were on sale. It had some summer stuff, hence the sale. And I filled it with bulk candy. It was a hit with the kids at the rehearsal dinner, especially the ring pops. They loved how the backpacks were clear and wore them through the dinner and would turn around to show people what was inside.

These are ADORABLE! But, have you checked with the parents for the OK? Of course, the kid is going to love it, but the parents may not be thrilled with you giving their little one 20 lbs of candy. ;)

You’d have to contact them maybe? I don’t really know if they sell just the bucket to be honest!

Hi, I found this by accident. You can get empty buckets at Nashville Wraps. They have a website. However, check out my web page if you want… I do this type of stuff all the time.
Hope this helps. :)
