Honeymoon Is SET!

August 24th, 2007 @ 11:30 am by Mrs. Poppy

We finally know where we’re going and I have to say that I’m very excited about it. We’re heading over to Los Cabos, Mexico to an all inclusive resort. We don’t have to worry about food, drinks (alcoholic or non), water activities and they gave us the honeymoon suite.. our room has a balcony facing two infinity pools which also face the ocean!!!!! Kind of like this view here:

Sorry for the picture overload. smiley1062 But as you can tell I am one excited little lady. We had a couple things we kept in mind while planning our honeymoon. We set a budget and weren’t going to budge from it unless it was seriously worth it. We also wanted to go somewhere that was highly rated not only by hotel star ratings, but also by our friends. And most importantly we wanted to get away to some place beautiful, where we could relax but also go shopping, to a spa, and do sport type activities.

A good friend of mine went here not too long ago, so we have rave reviews from her and her boyfriend. You can do completely nothing or you can take dance, archery, snorkle, scuba lessons, glass bottom boat rides, visit lovers beach and many other activites. That sounds like my sort of place.

I am really excited to say that we booked it through Apple Vacations. We looked around at a lot of other sites and travel agents, but we’ve used AV before and we loved it. Plus it was the best deal we could find. So ladies Mr. Poppy and I will be here for a week and I can’t WAIT! I’ll be sure to review it once we get back with lots of pictures.

How is your honeymoon planning going?

Delinda - I’m excited for you as well :) Make sure you take lots of pictures and let me know how it is. I’m always looking for vacation spots so I’d love to hear your opinion. ;)

I’m embarrassed to admit that I hate looking up season and weather info when it comes to vacations, so I have been procrastinating on it. we wanted to go to Paris but who knows how it will be in March?

The pictures are beautiful!
I love all inclusive.:0 Best way so that I can just take shopping for friends/family money!

I am going to the same place in October for my honeymoon! Did you have to pay more for the honeymoon suite? Or did you just tell them it was your honeymoon and they upgraded you?

I stayed there 2 years ago - so much fun. The staff is great and the hotel is really wonderful. It’s a beautiful spot on the coast as well, you’ll love it. You’re not too far from Lover’s Beach, if you want something to do during the day, consider taking a water taxi (easiest way to get there). You’ll probably see seals sunning themselves on the rocks! But be careful of the current, it’s very strong here and can be dangerous.

I’ll be honest with you, though - the food at the Riu is mediocre. But, it’s all-inclusive so it’s not unenexpected. Dinner recommendation outside the Riu — La Golondrina. SO good. Fresh seafood, heavenly ambiance with twinkling lanterns and lights hanging from the trees. It’s outdoors, so just make sure you go after sundown when the temps cool off.

I went to Cabo last year and loved it. It’s gorgeous, fun and relaxing. The size of the waves on the beach along the Pacific Ocean side are incredible (be careful walking on the beach)!

There are alot of people who will try to sell you a timeshare. They line up at the airport and offer you rides to your hotel as a way of gaining you as a captive audience. When I first read warnings about this, I thought it was overblown, but it really was how people said! I tried to avoid eye contact.

Our honeymoon is taking us to Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Its claim to fame is being the location where Morgan Freeman went after getting out of jail in the Shawshank Redemption. :-)

Looks great! We’ll have to take a trip there too! We bought tickets for Nassau, Bahamas because the airfare was decent. But we haven’t selected a hotel/resort. Any suggestions?

Oh! And my ultimate restaurant recommendation in Cabo is Mi Casa. We ate there a couple of times. It’s unbelievably good and the atmosphere is fabulous!

That resourt looks AMAZING!!! I LOVE RIU - especially the Palaces’ - ooo la la…you’re going to have an amazing time!!! Can’t wait to hear your reviews!

We went to Los Cabos for our honeymoon in Feb/March! We LOVED it.

And, I strongly second the recommendation Christine made: Mi Casa is a fabulous restaurant. We had to go here because I saw in People magazine that Jen Aniston and Courtney Cox Arquette and friends had dinner at Mi Casa when they were in Cabo… so, of course, I had to eat there too! Also, my FIL’s former business partner lives in Todo Santos (just north of Cabo San Lucas) and they said Mi Casa was one of the best restaurants in the city.

One other thing, I know you have an all inclusive package but, if you’re looking for the ultimate indulgence, have dinner at Las Ventanas. We did and it was really wonderful and romantic!

Have a great time!

adrienne - we booked it through apple vacations and we told them it’s our honeymoon :) i’m sure if you tell them they will upgrade you too. you do have to bring a marriage license w/you in order to prove you are on your honeymoon.

cdd - thanks for your advice :) i will try it out. it’s because of people like you that going on vacation will be nice for us :) recommendations are AWESOME.

christine - oh i heard about those time share people and i will stay very clear from them. oooh your trip sounds amazing too - you will take pics and do a review yes i’d love to hear about it! oh i’m so excited about the waves, just watching waves makes me happy. and i’ll be sure to try out mi casa :D thanks!

davis2b - i highly recommend looking at online site: expedia, travelocity, hotwire and such. you can see customer reviews on each hotel, view maps and such. good luck :) we were thinking about going there as well!

hamiharri - :) thank you!

HACB - thank you for your suggestion i will definitely check out las ventanas. i am going to have to make out a whole list of everything you guys recommended :) so excited….even more so now!

It looks really nice…I hope you two have a wonderful honeymoon. A word of warning though - we recently went to a Riu hotel (in Puerto Vallarta) and did NOT have a good experience. We actually left a day into our honeymoon. :( I don’t think I would ever stay at a Riu hotel again.

I hope that you do not have a bad experience though!! I hope your honeymoon is perfect.

*Sorry, I didn’t notice that you said your friend had been there and loved it! Nothing to worry about then. Carry on! :D

I went to Cabo 2 yrs ago. That place is AMAZING. The water is beautiful, the beaches are clean, the resort I stayed at was very well kept. I own a time share but I was not approached at all. There were some vendors trying to sell stuff to you on the beach, but they weren’t that much of a nuisance.

Have a great time. You’re gonna love it!

Hi Miss Poppy, I’m so excited for you! If you don’t mind me asking, how much did you get your package for, per person? I was highly interested in going to Cabo in December and haven’t been able to find a deal within my budget. If you don’t mind e-mailing me the information, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
