I’m A Sucker For Sissy Cocktails

August 24th, 2007 @ 5:23 pm by Mrs. Emerald

After mulling over the zillion drink options, I finally decided on our specialty cocktails! This could only mean… design time! I needed to come up with a drink menu to be displayed on the two bars. This time, I decided to K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid), and went straight to Microsoft Word instead of messing with Illustrator.

Voila!

Again like my programs, the gold monogram on the top was hand embossed after I printed out the text on pearlescent paper. (For a great step-by-step tutorial on embossing, check out Miss Rasberry’s old post.) The text was simply typed out in MS Word in the Landscape layout with the page divided into two columns, so I could print 2 per page on my trusty Canon photo printer. The fonts are Cezanne and Copperplate Gothic Light, and the flourishes are from the font WMdesigns, (click for free download). Then the page was cut down and mounted on chocolate pearlescent cardstock with rounded corners. Now I just need to find a frame or stand to display these on…

Ok, so I admit, I didn’t actually TRY these drinks, but I imagine they will all taste pretty darn yummy!! I mean, how can you go wrong with vodka, grenadine and Sprite? Or gin, Midori and tonic? And gin, rum, pineapple juice and ginger ale?!

But what I especially love, are the drink names… My nickname since childhood has always been, “Charleney” which translated into “Char-lini,” a play on the word Bellini (although the drink itself is not Bellini like, but let’s not get technical here!). And Mr. E’s name is Borton, hence “Bor-tonic.” Har har har. Slightly cheesy, but I’m sure our friends will get a kick out of it, although the adults may be slightly befuddled… laughin049

If you are doing specialty drinks, are you displaying a menu? Don’t forget to include a sentence at the bottom so guests know that they can also order from the regular bar. Our line was, “Selections from the standard bar also available.”

I LOVE your monogram– everytime you post something you created that features your mongram, I’m floored by how great it looks. Did you design that yourself?

Love it! I wanted to offer one signature cocktail throughout the night called the “HamiHarri Highball” - which would be gin and grapefruit juice (aka the greyhound and my FAV drink!). Hami (my last name is Hamilton) and Harri (his last name is Harris) - so I thought it was cute. I wasn’t going to do it due to the possible cheese factor. BUT once I saw your menu and how elegant it looked, I think I am going to go for it!

How beautiful! We did a martini bar (to cut down on expense, we offered only a selection of martinis, beer, wine, soda and water, instead of a full bar) and did a cute little menu with 5 selected drinks. Our was much quirkier than yours; yours is so elegant!

I put our menus in those clear acrylic stand-on-their-own, cheap frames. (I figured that way if they didn’t “come home,” I wouldn’t be sad.) Bars are always wet, so the acrylic frame protected the ink jet inks from running.

MK, our monogram was designed by Sarah of Truly Smitten designs, she did our invitation. Let me know if you are interested in her contact info!
