Before Mr. D and I were even engaged, we already knew that photography was the one thing we would be willing to splurge on. Anyone who knows me knows that I am all about “capturing the moment”…I carry my point-and-shoot camera everywhere I go, absolutely love taking millions of pictures, and I am an avid scrapbooker!
As such, I began the search for the right photographer shortly after we got engaged. We considered several photographers in the LA area. Finally, in April, I thought I was ready to commit. I had already looked at so many different photographers and had found few that were even close to par with our standards. We discovered a husband-wife team that we thought did a pretty good job, though their style was a bit on the formal side. Nonetheless, they had a lot of experience, was extremely professional, and had high quality albums.
The night before we were about to submit our contract, Mr. D suddenly got very excited and called me to come quickly to the other room. “THIS is what I want!” he said to me, as he showed me these…

His childhood friend from church, Melissa, had just taken her engagement photos and posted up a link from her xanga to Scott Robert’s website. My reaction: OMG, Scott’s the ONE. We emailed Scott immediately! But then the disappointment sunk in as I started feeling guilty in realizing how far we had already gotten in the process with the other photographer, having already negotiated a package from them. And Scott looked very expensive.
But Mr. D urged me to give it a shot and give Scott a call. The next morning, I called him first thing, and he returned my call within 30 minutes. He was so friendly on the phone! I hurried and got straight to the point, telling him that we were literally about to sign up with these other guys, but I just saw the Melissa/Tony pics the prior evening and fell in love with his work, and wanted to see if there was a chance of working with him. Scott slowed me down though, and just wanted to know about what we wanted in a photographer, what drew us to his pictures, what was important to us, and just questions about us and our wedding.
I love that characteristic of Scott…it is more than just a business to him! He was so gracious, and it turns out we were able to work out a really nice package that would fit our needs. We are still paying more than we would’ve with the other photographer, but believe me, I am fully convinced that for the quality of Scott’s work, it will be worth EVERY penny. Because it is not about having a beautiful museum quality photo or a magazine-like shot….it is about the photographer’s ability to capture those special moments in a way that takes you back to that moment in time every time you look at that photo. Only a rare few photographers have that gift, and Scott Robert Lim is one of them. That was what I was looking for, which was why I was able to make a decision on the spot like that.
By the end of that day, we had hired him! Mr. D and I can’t wait to work with Scott…we trust that he will be the best person to capture our special day in the way we want.
Piggybacking off of Miss Cherry Blossom’s post from the other day, I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite shots from Scott’s portfolio that are in addition to the one’s Miss CB posted up…

(And I loved the work he did for Miss Tomato’s wedding!…)
