Wedding Day Weather

August 26th, 2007 @ 10:27 am by Mrs. Onion

The weather on your wedding day…this is something all brides think about and some even obsess about. But it’s the one thing you absolutely cannot control. If you’re having an outdoor ceremony be sure to have a rain back up plan — a tent, an indoor option — something!

My “rain plan” consists of a pair of cute Ann Taylor wellies and a matching umbrella!

Not enough you say? P’shaw. But seriously, our wedding ceremony is indoors and the reception is a short walk from there, so I’m not too concerned. I see it as a great photo opportunity in my cute boots and umbrella with my short wedding dress! Can’t you just see it now?

But, for those of you who are getting closer to your wedding day (Miss Corn — listen up), the Weather Channel hears ya! Check out their Wedding Weather. You tell it your first name, your wedding date and location and voila — a personalized wedding weather tracker. Average highs and lows, a look back at the weather on your day for three previous years and even a countdown courtesy of theknot.com. Check it out! With my wedding 13 days away, I’ve made weather.com homepage.

That is such a cool website. They will even *help* you choose a date- wish I knew about this earlier. Setting a date has been hard! Although weather wasn’t really the factor ;)

Not that I’d wish rain upon you, but wellies with a short dress sounds adorable!!!

A recent Washington Post article on White House weddings (thanks, Jenna) said it was rainy on the day of Tricia Nixon’s planned outdoor wedding. So the White House had Air Force meteorologists monitoring the weather on a minute-by-minute basis. At some point, they called and said, “In 23 minutes, you’ll have a 14-minute break in the weather,” and everyone rushed outside!

But my favorite part of the story was the beautiful thought that Richard Nixon said to cheer up his daughter: “Gentle rain caresses a marriage.” Guess a daughter’s wedding turns even the most maligned of fathers into a sweet philosopher. :-)

Did you not think I was already on this site???

I have been stalking it since we picked a date…also been looking at the extended forecasts that you can find on Google. Of course, 1/2 of them say rain and 1/2 of them say sun. Luckily we have 3 rain backup plans :)

My rain plan includes a black umbrella for the groom, a white umbrella for me, and matching clear plastic bubble umbrellas for the bridal party (purchased in bulk for super cheap on ebay). Rain or shine, I want cute photos!

I got married a year ago and was nervous about the weather all week. It rained through Friday night but let up on Saturday. After our rehearsal dinner my maid of honor gave me a pair of white wellies which I did wear at the wedding. Then as a surprise all of my attendants showed up in pink wellies that matched their gowns. It was a lot of fun and great memories. Get the wellies!
