Memory “Scents”

August 27th, 2007 @ 6:20 pm by Mrs. Onion

So Miss Emerald’s post, Ahead of the Curve, made me think about how strongly we associate a scent with a person/event/time in our lives. I had a very hard time finding a perfume I loved because many gave me a killer migraine. But then I found “Sugar” by a company called Fresh.

I love it — they describe it as follows: “A vibrant fragrance incorporates sparkling citrus notes with delicately sweet heart and lingering warm base notes. Absolutely catching” And is it ever! I almost freaked out when I went to their website and didn’t recognize the bottle. I hope this means that they have just changed the packaging because I adore the perfume! I’ve been wearing it since before Mr. Onion and I started dating so it really makes him think of me. Whenever I wear it and he gets near me he smiles, makes an “mmm” noise and has no choice but to hug and smooch me! It’s the best reaction ever. So, of course, this is what I’ll be wearing on our wedding day.

They also have a fantastic but insanely expensive lip gloss which I was given as a gift 2 years ago, but couldn’t afford to keep buying for myself because it’s so soft it just disappears, and then you have to buy more! It’s called, “Sugar Lip Treatment” and at a whomping $22.50 a stick I wouldn’t get too hooked!

Any particular scent that brings back strong memories of a person or event for you?

Have been wearing Chanel Allure since my sixteenth birthday — such a beautiful scent and so nice when applied lightly, so that only someone “close” can smell. I loooove it, and the fiance does, too. I totally get the point of smelling “different” on your wedding to evoke a new feeling later, but I wouldn’t think to wear anything else on my wedding day. If its not broken, right?

i looooove everything from fresh. their masks, fragrances, shampoos… i’m sensitive to most perfumes as well, but fresh really has the most divine scents!!

As for perfume - good old Chanel No. 5 is what I wear for my hubby. It makes him get all squishy.

Although I detest all forms of smoking, the smell of cigars brings a sharp memory of my grandfather smoking Cuban cigars on his back porch when I was very young. It’s a strangely comforting smell.

Smell seems to me to be the most specific, jarring memory trigger I have!

I used to wear Elizabeth Arden - Sunflowers, it’s very unique and I associate it with all the good times in HS. Now I am “perfume whore”, I like to switch it up. Currently I use Fresh - Sugar Lychee ( yum, I love everything lychee: lychee fruit, lychee martini, lychee icecream, and of course lychee perfume). I used CK - Euphoria Bloosom before, Bvlgari - Green Tee, Lancome- Miracle, Chanel - Chance. I could use pretty much all of them any time, I still like them all, but now I am in experimental phase :-D

How funny! I recently discovered Fresh at Sephora the other weekend when I went there looking for a wedding scent. The consultant helped me and my FI out. It turns out we both like the Fresh Cannabis (LOL, I know!). We are both trying the sample atomizers because it works differently with our chemistry and it is the front runner for both of us. We’ll most likely share the unisex scent for the wedding.

You know, I always wanted to smell fresh Sugar because of the name. I’m going to get myself to the mall over the weekend and give it a try, just cause you love it so much!! :)

I love Fresh products especially the Milk line. If you’re into the Sugar line then I highly recommend their bath cubes.

I heart both the Sugar perfume and the lip treatment. Such yummy stuff. But my go-to perfume is Blue by Ralph Lauren. It has a really classic smell that people always think its an older French perfume. :)
