New Celebrations Collection!

August 27th, 2007 @ 11:33 am by Mrs. Onion

I got my bridesmaid dresses on sale for $99 from the Ann Taylor Celebrations Collection. I think this line is so brilliant. I’ve always been a fan of Ann Taylor’s style and value. I have items of clothing from Ann Taylor that I’ve had for years and have held up very well. I even bought a super cute pair of wellies from Ann Taylor (there is a matching umbrella that will be coming to Burlington just in case it rains on our wedding day)!

I digress — so I just got an email announcing Ann Taylor’s NEW Celebrations Collection and wanted to share with you. Not only do they make lovely bridesmaid dresses your friends will most likely want to wear again, they make wedding dresses for those on a smaller budget with classic taste.

They also recently added flower girl dresses to the collection. We had our flower girl’s mother buy her the brown sash to go with my bridesmaid dresses, and she is going to look cute as pie. We are going to tie the bow in the back — her mother was kind enough to get her dressed and send me this picture. Here she is in her dress (I kept her face private).

And here is our bridesmaid dress (sadly I don’t have a picture of any of the girls in it — that will have to wait until the wedding).

And while I’m at it…the bridesmaids shoes. They are Nina and we got them on sale on-line from Macy’s.

I was very aware that my girls couldn’t afford a $200+ bridesmaid dress, so that was a big part of my choice. What did you do for your bridesmaids? Did you get them custom matching dresses? Pick a color and let them pick something in their budget? Did you pay for them?

I’m letting my bridesmaids choose the style of their dress (so they felt comfortable in it and wouldn’t have to compromise). And because the dresses were so expensive, I’m paying for them as the major part of their gift.

We couldn’t afford to buy the dresses for the girls (sadly) but I wanted to pick something they could wear again. Apart from that, my ladies all range in sizes from an 8 to a 26, so I needed something very flattering. I told all the girls black jersey and something with sleeves and let them go wild. It’s really cool to see what they’ve come up with - each dress goes together but is still their own style. We have one classic wrap dress, one a-symmetrical hem… I’m excited to see them all together.

The shoes were a total steal - $25 on sale at Chinese Laundry. :)

As a photographer, I love it when the bridesmaid’s dresses are all a bit different. Give them a basic style and color palate, and then see what they come up with (of course, you have the final say).

I’m paying for the dresses too. I’ll be selecting a few styles/colors and let them choose.

First I gave them a color and offered to let them pick for themselves but they didn’t want to — they wanted me to do the work, so I did.

I wore an AT Celebration’s dress for my college roommate’s wedding in January- she gave us a colour and we could pick any style from that line- it was GREAT! Everyone picked a different dress (unbelievably!) and the diversity in style was really great. I’m planning on going a similar route with my bridesmaids.

I got my BM dresses at JCrew. Theya ren’t actualy BM dresses, but are sundresses instead, since we are having an outdoors ocean view wedding. I picked out the color and fabric, and allowed them to pick any dress that JCrew sells in my specifications. They each picked a different style, and since they are actual summer dresses, they will wear them again. In fact, I purchased one just like theirs in white for my rehersal dinner!

I got my BM dresses from Ann Taylor as well. I love the flower girl dress - where is it from?

We got our bridesmaid’s dresses from AT and they looked fantastic! I loved them. Go to our wedding website to see how they turned out. Under the slideshow presentation, you’ll see a great photo. The dresses were garnet red - and lovely!

Amy — sadly I don’t know for sure where the flower girl dress is from because I told her mother to just get her a white dress. I think she got it at Lord & Taylor from a sale around Easter time.

And Lousie — the AT dresses photographed very well — the girls looked pretty.

I have never been a bridesmaid, so when I started to consider how costly it must be to be one, I was very worried that my friends would hate me for making them spend lots of money on my wedding. (silly, I know). They are wearing cornflower blue cashmere sweaters with dark blue satin skirts to the floor. We purchased the sweaters for them so they only had to buy the skirts. We got them at David’s for only $79 each, so all in all they didn’t spend that much AND they 100% will wear their sweaters again!!
