About Beehive

Beehive

August 28th, 2007 @ 4:12 pm by Beehive

We’ll definitely be changing the format of the beehive now that we have boards.  Perhaps we’ll link to the most popular/interesting threads of the day in the boards?  If you have any ideas on how we should organize the beehive from now on, please comment below and let us know!

  1. Di is looking for nonraunchy, crowd pleasing games for the bride and groom to play during the wedding.
  2. Laura wants to attach small program booklets to sandlewood fans.  Has anyone done anything similar or have any ideas on how to go about this?
  3. sundhin wants to know how one achieves “movie-star” perfect underarms with absolutely no stubble?
  4. alli’s family owns a small winery and she likes the idea of doing wine glasses as a favor, but she’s not sure if she should engrave them with their monogram and date because will people like it?  The other option is to engrave a leaf design that she’s incorporated into other aspects of the wedding.  Suggestions?
  5. mindy m. saw an RSVP on a bio or invitation site that had a cow and maybe a pig and fish.  They were outlines of the animals.  Does anyone happen to know where she might find a picture of the RSVP?
  6. Katie B asks when ordering and giving measurements, what is the hallow to the hem?  How does that change the sizing?
  7. Miss Daffodil is looking for good but affordable videographer suggestions in the LA area after seeing Miss Peony’s videographer post.
  8. Kim S received an invitation from her brother’s girlfriend’s sister.  She’s never met the sister nor is she close to the girlfriend.  Kim’s parents were invited as well, and they met the sister only once.  Will it look bad if she doesn’t go?  She feels like she just might be “seat filler” for this event.

Katie B - I am assuming it means the hollow of your thoat to the floor? Maybe underarm? Seems like it has to do with overall length, though, which could be very important if your dress has a difficult-to-alter hem. Can you contact the company for more info?

Sarahdoo says:

sundhin, i love that question :) use a good shaving cream and shave first down like regular and then side to side. the hair grows in all directions so that’s the best way to get them all.

i dont remember where i learned that… but i think it was on tv. hah

Sara says:

Laura, I would use booklets about the size of the small Kolo albums (1.5″ squared?). I would probably not bind the papers together though and just cut out individual pages (after mass printing them on larger paper.) Then gather all relevant pages for the program, punch a hole in the corner, string a thin ribbon through the hole, and attach to the ring on the bottom of the fan. HTH!

me says:

Sundhin, actually what they do is they pluck, either with tweezers or by threading. A friend of mine does it to hers.

5.
Miss Peppermint says:

Miss Daffodil - I have a post that should be put up soon about the videographer we chose. He works in LA and his prices are reasonable. Check him out at: http://www.walterpawluk.com/

6.
KDN says:

Katie B - my dress had to be measured hollow-to-hem, and it means the length from the hollow of your throat to where the hem of your dress should hit. It is critical when your hemline is difficult or impossible to alter. You need to wear the shoes you’ll wear with your dress when measuring also.

7.
Christina says:

alli- go with the leaf design. I purposely avoided giving anything with our names or initials on it because would you want something with someone else’s initials on it?

8.
Laura S says:

Alli - I wouldn’t engrave them with anything to be honest. It’s cheaper that way for you, and will have broader appeal. If you are really set on engraving, I would go with the leaf design rather than your monogram or wedding date. I mean think about it, if you went to your friend’s wedding, what would you do with a wine glass with their wedding date on it? People usually only want memorabilia like that engraved with their own special dates.

The wine glass idea is really nice though. Make sure to give a pair instead of a single one, so that they will have matching glasses. (You could get away with a pair per couple so that it’s still one per person, for those guests coming with dates.)

Mrs. Bee - with the boards, do you still need a beehive?

Lydia says:

For the underarm question–do you own any microdermabrasion products? I have some from Mary Kay (designed for the face), and I love it. The reason is that you can use a product like that on your underarms before you shave, and it helps remove excess skin cells and ingrown hairs so you get a really, really, really close shave.

I just started doing this a few months ago, and it works really well.

Laura S says:

Kim S - I think you could decline politely with a nice message on the RSVP wishing them the best of luck and that would be perfectly appropriate.

Mindy M.

My RSVP has those icons :-). I’m assuming my designer found them from istockphoto.com or clip art sites (Google will show you a lot).

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Mrs. Bee says:

this is the last regular beehive we’ll do since these questions were already posted in yesterday’s hive.

do you think we should eliminate the hive altogether? or should we link to the the most interesting/popular posts on the boards in our beehives?

13.
Ashley says:

Mindy: Paper Source has these really cute stamps specifically for this purpose if you want the stamped look.

aoedorothee says:

mrs. bee, i like the linking to the most intersting/popular posts on the boards idea in lieu of the beehive.

15.
katie says:

Alli - don’t engrave - too “prom-tastic” if you do.

Mrs. Bee - i like the option to ask questions and if you elminated the hive where will the questions go? the hive seems to make the site more interactive on a personal level.

tofu says:

sundhin - if its in your budget and you have time, laser hair removal! its the best money spent. ever. serious. next best thing is to pluck w/ a tweezer.

Linda says:

Miss Daffodil,

We have a great videographer based in LA. They are ver Their website is http://www.frequentflyerproductions.com .

They have prices listed but will work with any budget. Also there have four samples of their work. You can also find a lot of the main questions you’d have answered on their site. I can’t shout out how great it has been so far to work with them! Best of luck!

davis2b says:

Mrs. Bee - As Katie said, I like the ability to ask questions in the hive, and then link the most popular to the boards.

The Hallow to Hem is a measurement from the base of your neck to the floor… this measurement helps to determine the length of the dress…

20.
bunnybride says:

Laura - we are attaching accordion programs to our sandalwood fans with Costa Rican touristy playing cards acting as the ends on the programs and the text going on a letter size accordion folded piece of paper cut to about 4″. Hole punched in one end, tied with ribbon, and sealed with a sticker to keep it together.

HACB says:

sundhin - I frequently have my underarms waxed. The growing in process is a little annoying (like any waxing, I guess!), but it achieves the best results that I’ve found for my dark hair/fair skin shadow problem. I haven’t tried laser hair removal yet… although I’m very intrigued and have heard great things.

22.
cs says:

My friend also waxes to get rid of everything…but to be warned, you have to grow it out to at least a 1/4 inch if you go this way!!

24.
Heidi says:

Is there any talk on the boards about how to choose the perfect wedding rings? We are thinking about these Titanium rings!

25.
Mary says:

Calling all flower addicts. I’m looking for a flower or flowers that has 6 petals and only six petals. Any recommendations, names and or pictures? Greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Joan says:

QUESTION: For those in New York who got a charter for their friends and family for the venue, how did you arrange for the pick up site? I can’t find anything on the web about how to get permission for a pickup in Manhattan. HELP!

27.
Erin says:

Alli –

I plan on doing that for my favors since we will be doing an autumn vineyard theme. I however opted to definitely out the date and monogram on it… but I will do it on the underside of the glass, as not to have something that reminds you of any school formal you have attended with the etched glasses. I think it’s classy and still has a nice touch. Plus, you can set them up, upside down so that everyone can see the etching, in order to make sur ethey se ethat the glasses are extra special.

Would anyone in the Northern NJ/NYC area be willing to send me a list of reception venues or resources? I live in Maryland and it is very hard for me to wade through all of these flash heavy websites. Especially want to know of places that are under $150 per person for Saturday evening.

does anybody know where i could purchase cheap rhinestone buckles for invitations? Thanks!

Sundhin - after trying shaving, waxing and now laser, I have to say that the laser is the way to go!

Annie - there is a publication you can get called Sites and Services and they do a NJ one (I think a NY one as well). It has all the info you need, very organized. As at your local B&N if they have it or can get it for you.

Inka says:

Annie-

You might want to try the Star Ledger website nj.com–they have a weddings forum where people often list prices of reception halls. I was trying to find one thread from a while back where a bride to be reviewed about 25 different places with prices, but I was unable to. Only thing I have to warn you about is, the women on the board can tend to get a little nasty to each other…there seem to be some trolls. Otherwise, I hope it’s somewhat helpful!
