Italian Wedding Gowns on Ebay

August 28th, 2007 @ 1:32 pm by Mrs. Tulip

Mr. T. and I have yet to set our exact wedding date or to find the location, but we’ve already tackled lots of the smaller details…. (As he puts it, we skipped Steps 1 and 2, and went right to Steps 27, 43, 48, and 72!) And being a girl, and one who loves new clothes, of course one of the first things I took care of was buying my wedding dress.

(Nope, not mine! Read on….)

I am a serious Ebay addict and bargain hound, and I’m also very easily intimidated by your typical bridalwear salon, so Ebay was the first and only place I turned to look for a gown.

Like many brides, I found my budget expanded once I found “the perfect gown,” but at least on Ebay that meant the difference between an original budget of $300 (actually quite possible on Ebay!), and my actual total of $445 after shipping. For that price, I got a silk and chantilly lace gown from Italy, by Italian designer Lucrezia Sposa. Brand new, and still bearing its price tag of 1,900 euros (over $2,000).

(Love it, but this isn’t mine either!)

And beyond the price, I love the fact that its European lineage makes the dress stand out a bit from the current crop of dresses. These days, it seems most non-couture dresses (and even many couture) are strapless A-line models. Flipping through magazines or scrolling down Ebay listings becomes an exercise in differentiating between tiny details in an endless stream of strapless A-line dresses. To me, it was refreshing finally to see some variety when I found this Ebay seller. And boy, does she have variety! There’s something for every taste, which means … some of the dresses go over better than others.

(Beautiful leaf details in the fabric make this perfect for a fall wedding)

As much as I’d love to show off my own dress to the world … you don’t get to see it! I want to keep it a secret from Mr. T. and our wedding guests until after the wedding. But I’ve included a broad sampling of Theresa White Brides’ other Ebay listings in this post, with specific details listed at bottom. Her customer service was excellent, and I highly recommend her as an alternative source for a less-expensive wedding gown.

Regalia from Sposa Piu’ Couture (size 18, $330); Stella from Lucrezia Sposa (100% silk & French lace, size 10, $600); Il Segreto from Linnea Effe by Floranna Roma (detachable train, size 12, $400); Alessa from Bellantuono (2 piece, 100% silk, size 12, $300); and Alita from Sposa Piu’ Couture (100% silk, size 10, $400).

eBay is also a reasonable source once you’ve found The Dress elsewhere. I ordered my $1000 Alfred Angelo gown from Just Pretty Bridals via eBay, for $553 including shipping.

If only these gorgeous gowns (and many, many others I saw on Ebay) came in plus-sizes. There’s a huge (no pun intended) market of us plus-size women out there that get kinda shafted when it comes to lovely, well-made clothing.
Thank you you for sharing those dresses! :)

Thanks so much for posting about this ebay seller!!! =)

I’m also not a fan of the strapless A line dresses (no offense to anyone), they just don’t look right on my body….never have. I love the ones you’ve posted and I’m rushing to check out their page. Thanks again!!! =)

I just bought my dress on ebay too! It’s a Amy Kuschel dress from 2007 (originally about $2500) and I bought it for $500 including shipping. I have a lot of confidence in the seller, but still I’m a bit nervous and hope it turns out ok!

I *love* that first dress. What a great find! I plan on using eBay for my wedding gown purchase, too.

I bought my wedding dress of Ebay too. It was a discontinued Maggie Sottero. With shipping and handling, it was around $250. The only real alteration I had to do was the length. It was a little long. I decided to look on ebay, because I was not finding anything in the bridal stores.

So glad to hear there are other Ebay dress success stories! (And Emma, no worries — you’ll surely be a success story as well….)

I’m about as Pro-Ebay as a girl can get, so you’ll definitely be hearing more about it from me. It’s where I got my shoes, bag, bridesmaid dresses … the list goes on! I also have lots more tips on Ebay dress buying in general, so stay tuned. :-)

Christine, you make a great point about the problem with finding good gress options in larger sizes. I’ll see if I can find any good info out there and hopefully will follow up in a later post.
