Good Ol’ Ice Cream Social

August 31st, 2007 @ 5:42 pm by Mrs. Peppermint

Because we’re having a destination wedding of sorts, we were thinking that after our rehearsal dinner it might be nice to have an informal ice cream social at the hotel. My cousin did a similar thing two years ago when he got married outside of Lake Tahoe. At first I didn’t think to suggest this idea for fear of the cost and coordination of another wedding event. Though, after talking with my family, I think we’ll be able to keep it all under control. It doesn’t need to be fancy–after all, we just wanted a chance for our guests to socialize before the big day.

We were thinking we could have a glorified ice cream social around the pool at the bed & breakfast where the wedding party is staying. It will be a casual, outdoor event (gotta love Palm Springs in the winter!) outside the lovely main courtyard of our favorite b&b.

Below are some pictures that have served as inspiration–though I don’t think it will be as fancy as all that. (taken from photographer Ryan Phillips’ blog of a recent wedding he shot that had an ice cream sundae bar)

My next purchase, perhaps, will be jars like this from IKEA for the toppings! (each priced at $2.99)

We used those jars for our candy bar - they are great! It will be a lot of fun. I had decided against a rehearsal diner but in the end, it would have been nice to spend more time with my out of town guests. I think the ice cream social will be a casual fun way to do that!
Anyone in the NYC area want 10 of them and scoops? email me alysonschwartz at gmail.com

I love all your cute ideas! 1st the invites. Then, the wedding charm cake. Now this. I think this is a great and inexpensive way for you to socialize with your guests.

If you have the time you should check out local thrift shops and garage sales for the jars for toppings. I’ve found lots of great deals, 6 glass jars for $5 at one place, no chips or cracks and looks like new.
