About Mrs. Tulip

Another New Wedding Mag, And A Great Tip : wedding magazines themes Subscri Subscribe_cover_3 Well, it appears my little wedding magazine addiction isn’t going away anytime soon…. In the meantime, this weekend I discovered another new UK title called Wedding Ideas.

Although I’m supposed to be cold turkey from all wedding magazine buying at the moment, after much pleading, several applications of over-the-top doe eyes, and many justifications of why it would help our wedding planning and therefore our entire lives as a couple, Mr. Tulip basically just gave up the battle and let me purchase a copy.

This magazine is a bit more “approachable” than the other UK mags I’ve read — in US non-wedding terms, more Family Circle or Good Housekeeping than Vogue or Elle. Although fewer of the featured ideas suit my personal tastes, it’s rather nice to have a different set of items to look through. (And there are lots of photo arrays — oh, how I like to look at photos!)

Another New Wedding Mag, And A Great Tip : wedding magazines themes Paint S Paint_sampler1

Though I’m only halfway through the issue, here’s the best wedding tip I’ve read so far: Most brides pick a few “wedding colors” and attempt to color coordinate their weddings, but it can be hard to remember the exact colors you’re hoping to match. A reader letter suggested picking up a range of paint chips at your local paint store or home renovation center, bringing the chips home, and then comparing them to a bridesmaid dress or other key item to find the ones that match your colors most closely. From then on, you can carry around just the paint chips. Brilliant!

That’s exactly what I did! I have paint chips I carry around with me. FI thinks I’m crazy - now I have proof that I’m not! :)

Haha, thanks exactly what I did as well! I wonder what my vendors (mainly florists) thought when I whipped out my little stack of colors =)

That’s a great idea! I use it for home decorating but didn’t think of carrying that over for my wedding. Duh!

Why not carry the fabric swatches?

Wow, kudos to those of you who already thought of the paint chip idea! It simply never would have come to me…. Brilliant also for coordinating with out-of-town people like your mother or MOH, I think.

Sara, fabric swatches would definitely work, but only if you HAVE them! In my case, I’d have to cut a chunk out of the dress! ;-) (I actually considered that — just a fraction of an inch from the seam. That’s my normal procedure. But you can see why I’m a bit more fond of the paint chip idea!!)

I didn’t care if my colors were exact in every example during my wedding–I figured it would look better if there were different tones. My colors were navy, light yellow, and ivory, so there was no chance of clashing. The “yellows” ended up being everything from a buttercream in the flower girl’s dress to a bright yellow of the wedding roses. It all looked good together.

And I was also addicted to British wedding magazines. Well, wedding magazines, period, but I loved the British ones enough to spend $10 each for them. I tossed a bunch right after the wedding, but this weekend I realized I had so many I put them up on eBay. If anyone’s interested, I have a lot of 21 British magazines up for sale, I think they’re still at $5. Also a bunch of Martha Stewarts, a huge lot of American ones, and some InStyle weddings. You’ll find them if you search.

Pencils, I love the idea of all those different shades of yellow….

And I can’t believe, with both my Ebay obsession and my wedding mag obsession, that I never put the 2 together! Maybe Mr. T (who has me on a wedding mag buying moratorium, ha ha) doesn’t need to know this, but I’ll definitely check out your British mag auction!!! ;-)
