So Many Shoes And None To Try On

September 4th, 2007 @ 8:33 am by Mrs. Petunia

The one minus I’d have to give my bridal shop is that they don’t sell any shoes. As you can imagine, this makes it difficult to make a decision as to what shoes to buy, since there is no way to try any on and see how a pair would look with a dress.

This means I’m having to shop online and look for what shoes I think may go with my dress. Because the dress has a flamenco feel to me, I immediately imagined closed-toe shoes reminiscent of formal dancing shoes. I’m worried though that this type of shoe is not exactly the sexiest. But who knows why I got stuck with that “feel”. I suppose many shoes could complement the dress and I just don’t know it because I can’t “see” it. If I just think of what I’d consider pretty shoes, I’d come up with these:

Grace Crystal, 3.5″, $130

I hate though that the heel is so high. I don’t want a teeny-tiny heel either, but Mr. Petunia is only about 2 to 3 inches taller than me, and I don’t want to look taller than him.
A good comprise between the sexy look and the dancing look may be these next ones, and the heel height is a bit better:

Fifi Clare, 3″, $185

I could of course go with what I first pictured in my mind, which would be this, and again, the heel is lower, too:

Something Bleu Signa, 2.75″, $190

Another thing to keep in mind is that I also have to make sure that any shoe I pick comes in ivory silk satin, which also narrows down my choices significantly.

Does anyone have any guesses as to which would look better with my dress?

Also, all these shoes have closed backs. What have been your experiences with wedding shoes that weren’t open in the back — are they terribly uncomfortable?

(BTW, all shoes pictured can be found at My Glass Slipper)

I like the look of the first one for your dress, especially the sparkly part. Are there others on the site with a lower heel? I haven’t had any bad experiences with closed-back shoes as breaking them in helps. The much bigger issues I had was the lack of padding on the balls of my feet and how crammed my feet were at the toe area (since I have wide feet). A girl friend of mine wore the third style shown for her wedding, and she said they were pretty comfortable, but close to the end of the night her feet felt tired. She does not have wide feet like me. ;o)

I wore the first pair for my wedding and LOVED them. I thought they were pretty and perfect for a wedding. One necessary suggestion - use the Dr. Schole’s padded ball insert thing-y. I forgot to put mine in and I could barely walk the next day (I danced my butt off though). A friend of mine wore hers all night and she swears by them now.

I like the second pair of shoes, I think they’re gorgeous and would certainly go with your dress. I actually think showing a little bit of toe is perfectly fine for dancing as long as your foot is well strapped into the shoe and won’t slide around, and the ankle strap would take care of that easily.

I’m not a very big fan of the third shoe, I think they look a little bit clunky.

I really like the first two but I also don’t like the third.

I’m having my gown brought from Spain and it’s all lace Ivory color, and I’m wearing either the third ones (from something bleu) or something bleu style Crystal (with a little bow) because my dress has a little ribbon belt.
I really like the third ones for your dress style…
