What About The Groom?

September 6th, 2007 @ 8:31 am by Mrs. Cherry Blossom

When Mr. CB and I started talking about rings, we hit the internet for ideas. Interestingly enough, I didn’t know of any major designers for men’s wedding rings. A search on major jeweler websites like Tiffany’s and we came up with na dah. There’s tons more selection for women, of course! What about the men? We should definitely have more designs for them!

I always knew I wanted to get him one with diamonds embedded in it, but nothing too “jarring” that he wouldn’t be comfortable with. Most guys, and Mr. CB originally too, could care less if their band has diamonds, but I think it’s because they haven’t come across any designs they actually might like.

Here are a few sites, including Design bands, that have a variety of selections. These are a few I like so far - the first one - Mr. CB maybe likes.d_1714

Are you custom designing a ring for your FH? Or, are your wedding bands going to match?

We had a really hard time finding a ring my husband would actually wear. For the wedding we used my late father’s ring - and on our honeymoon we bought him one from a street vendor in Costa Rica for 6000 colones. That’s $3 American :) He loves it! I love that it’s also a memory from our honeymoon :)

I’m not sure hubby-to-be knows what he wants. He says he wants a simple plain band, but knowing him, I think he’ll want some kind of design, something different but still classic looking. One thing he’s absolutely sure of - no bling.

I had originally thought we would have matching bands, but mine is engraved to match my engagement ring and his is a brushed finished Christian Bauer. It’s a good looking ring, and I can’t wait to see him wearing it!

Nah, never thought we’d have matching bands as I knew I wanted diamonds and he wanted a plain band. I thought he’d go with a thin, yellow gold double milgrain band - a very traditional style and what his dad has.

Instead, my sweetie chose a very cool tungsten-carbide band. Looks similar to the upper right hand one in the “here are some without diamonds” section. He’s always building or repairing something around the house or one of his cars - this choice metal seemed a wise choice.

This is the ring that my honey wants: http://OneRing.notlong.com

Unfortunately, we won’t have the budget to get that for our wedding, so we’re going to get cheap, plain bands from a jeweler in town. Then, later on, once we have money again, he’s going to have his fancy ring and I’m going to get my fancy ring.

Mine will be something like this: http://VineRing.notlong.com

So, no, we won’t match. And I probably won’t wear my engagement ring with my wedding ring. But that’s fine. It’s just not that important to us.

we never intended to match our bands. i surfed casually for his ring while looking for bands for myself, but it was totally time wasted as he really didn’t know what he wanted until he tried stuff on. plus i realized that he’s the one wearing it, not me, so i wanted him to pick something he loved and was comfy with. his tastes are always very simple, so what he wanted, was comfortable with, and looked best on him was the most basic, white gold band.

i got my husband’s band from bluenile.com we got him
a brushed metal finish titanium band. it does not match
my ring at all (mine has diamonds that go half way around)
i dont think most men like diamonds on their bands, it’s
usually hard to find them tastefully done.

Our bands do not match, I knew that finding one design that worked with my e-ring and he liked was going to be next to impossible. Instead, we got rings that compliment each other but don’t match. Both of our bands have mil grain detail on them and both are white gold, so they relate to each other but we were able to find styles that work for us individually.

My hubby fell in love with a great Christian Bauer design. It doesn’t match my ering/wedding band other than the fact that they are all white gold.
If I could give wedding bee readers a bit of advice… if you find that you fall for a “designer” band like my hubby did, it pays to shop around. We didn’t have the budget for platinum/wg combo that the style was advertised as. Local jewelers said that they couldn’t order it as just white gold for less $$$
We contacted Christian Bauer and they said they most certainly could make a white gold version and we used one of their official resalers to order the band exactly as my husband wanted… for 1/3 the price of the highest quote we previously received!

Sarah - thanks for the awesome advice. We shopped around for alternative jewelers that might be able to custom design a ring that we found at another store but had no luck. hope you other brides/grooms have better luck!

Impatience - those rings are really cool. love the intricate details on your wedding band.

KTRYCRZ - I think it’s so sweet and such a great moment for you to use your late father’s wedding ring during the wedding and found the one you both loved during your honeymoon. double the memory to his wedding ring and the price - SCORE!

Anney - thanks for sharing more sites!

Christine - my gf who’s getting married next month also purchased a tungsten ring for her hubby-to-be for the same reasons - he works a lot with his hands and he didnt want anything heavy or he might damage. They have tons of very nice designs, great choice!

Joy - thanks for pointing out the links. I’m still very new at the html links. I’ll try to double check before posting - thanks to Mrs. Bee for catching it and correcting it for me afterwards. Sorry for the trouble.

I *kind of* custom designed my FI’s band. I special ordered his band to have a few more diamonds so there is less gap between each one. His is a Christian Bauer and very similar to the very first one you have pictured. You can see it in my bio.

Good luck!

FI only has a plain band as that’s what he wanted, but Cartier has some really cool looking men’s bands that I love. Very industrial looking, though I don’t even want to know what they cost…

My husband and I have matching tungsten carbide rings. We got them at tungstenworld.com. They have a great warranty for sizing, since the rings can’t be resized, they will replace it. They also guarantee the finish and a “no questions asked” policy if something happens to the ring and it loses its luster. We love our rings. His is 8mm because he has freakishly large fingers, and I wear a 6mm. They can remove them by cracking them in emergencies…Great for active lifestyles!!

Our rings are also very classic and no diamonds are in them. His is the Neptune and mine is the Mercury on the site I listed above. They may be plain, but they are very shiny!! I love wearing it outside it glistens!! Husband enjoys wearing it too! He is rough on his hands and rings and they are still beautiful!!
