You Can Call Me Mags…

September 6th, 2007 @ 12:26 pm by Mrs. Magnolia

Hello, all! I’m Miss Magnolia, the new bee in the neighborhood!

I’m so excited to be a part of this fantastic wedding community! I’ve been reading this site regularly since I got engaged, and I’ve gotten so many great ideas from it – and now I can’t wait to start sharing some of my ideas with you!

So who are the Magnolias? Well, I didn’t start out as a Southerner, believe it or not (I know, it’s blasphemy!). I’ve lived in several east coast states, and I finally settled in Atlanta after college. However, Mr. Magnolia is a native Atlantan, which is tough to find in this city of transplants!

We should have met about 800 times before we actually did. We had at least one class together and lived in the same apartment complex in college, and we lived across the street from one another after we graduated. We also work in the same field and have a similar group of friends. Seriously, how we evaded each other for so long, I’ll never know. We were finally introduced during the summer of 2005, and we started dating very soon after that.

We got engaged on December 1st of last year, and we’re planning an evening wedding for January of 2008. Why January? Let’s just say we have our reasons, the most important being that it’s after college football season, and as every good Southern girl knows, you simply don’t get married during football season (at least, not if you want anyone to show up)!

Planning has been great so far, and we can’t wait to celebrate with our wonderful friends and family on the day we become Mr. and Mrs. Magnolia! Thanks for reading!

You crack me up about football season-it’s so true! I thank the Football Gods they have given us a by-week in my favorite team and my fiance’s favorite team that correspond so I can have my garden wedding!!

Welcome again! My FI and I were in the same boat - no one knows how we managed to avoid meeting each other for so long. :) Can’t wait to hear more.

Haha! Planning a wedding around football season is a sad, but true reality in the south!

Welcome again! It’s nice to have another southern representative in the hive. :)

Yay! For an Atlanta bride! We, too, planned around football season–Georgia Tech football, though; however, I was able to convince FI that an away game to a low-performing team could be missed in favor of a Fall wedding.

the bf and i also managed to avoid each other for years until finally stumbling into each other online of all places.

i completely understand scheduling around the football season. luckily for me, since i’m the sports fanatic in the outfit, i’m on the west coast so we can still go on with the wedding with no fears of missing a game [my college team's in the midwest]. score one for me.

Congratulations and welcome!

We had a winter wedding too - February to be exact. We planned around the Superbowl and the Daytona 500 - two of the biggest sporting events! (if you follow the NFL and Nascar.) :) Anyway, I totally understand your date choice.

Hello and welcome!

It will be very exciting to have a wedding to read about in the cold, boring month of January. Or at least it’s cold and boring in Chicago in January.

Can’t wait to read more from you :)
