Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

Color Me Useless

September 7th, 2007 @ 2:35 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Our last floral meeting before the wedding has been scheduled for September 17th. Luckily, I just happen to be transitioning between all white bouquets and colorful ones!  Since I’m unable to decide, I thought I’d come ask the friendly hive for your thoughts!

My dress is ivory color:

My MOH will be wearing this (the color is darker in person):

I have always pictured flowers filled with reds and rusts and oranges for the matron of honor. Kind of like these:

Then I thought, is that too much color for her? Honestly, I love the colors, but perhaps it’s all too much. Maybe a bouquet of fire-colored callas only would be better?

Now, my main concern is my own flowers. I’m conceited like that, ya know? I’m torn between the exotic but warm colors or the pure white beauties!

These are the whites I like, minus any hydrangea, as I’m not a fan (not because it’s not beautiful, but because it was my trademark “bouquet” when I was a kid and I think I’m hydrangea’d out).

The green adds a nice touch

I’m not a fan of stephanotis

and the one below that may be a little pinker than I’d choose.

Or perhaps a mix of the oranges and whites, instead of stephanotis, I’d use freesia, my fave flower.

So, what do you like for the MOH and the bride? Ivory dress with white flowers, or ivory dress with reds and oranges? MOH’s cinnamon with reds, rusts and oranges, or with just orange?

Can you tell I have no idea what I want?

OK, I love the fire callas! I have never seen them before and they are gorgeous! I also think they would be great with the MOH dress.

For you, I am partial to color in the bouquet. Against the lightness of the dress it is simply stunning! I love the last bouquet you posted. Lovely :-)

what if you did a more neutral color for the MOH (creams, ivories) and then did a more rust/orange bouquet for yourself with maybe some cream/ivory flowers in it to tie the two bouquets together (similar to the last bouquet you showed). I think it would provide a great contrast against both dresses.

I think maybe just the fire callas for your MOH (against that dress! ooooh!) and then more rusty colored flowers for you? For some reason, I see white flowers as more of a winter/early spring thing, but fall is just asking for those bright vibrant colors, and they’ll really pop against your dress! Love all the photos you posted here though!!

I like the look of the MOH or BMs with all white flowers (to stand out against the color of the dresses) and the bride with the brightly colored bouquet…but that’s just me! Those are some gorgeous looking bouquets, especially the second one down! It makes me wish I was having a fall wedding!

Ooh, count me in with the group that loves the last bouquet! In theory, I also love the simplicity of a white bouquets…. But colorful bouquets always look so much prettier in pictures! And considering that your MOH is colorful, could you two end up looking like you were at different weddings if you were all-white by her side?

MOH = fire callas and Beautiful Kiwi with reds and oranges. My MOH had that for her wedding and it looks gorgeous!

I think with the colour of your MOH’s dress, her bouquet would look better with mostly creams/whites or with the orange/rust flowers mixed with cream/white ones. And use the colourful flowers for your own bouquet. I think it would pop much better that way. I think your MOH might look a bit overly monochromatic if you give her all coloured flowers basically the same colour as her dress.

Love, love, love the last one AND I’m not usually a fan of “rusty” flowers, but the white breaks it up nicely and makes it look fresh.

I love freesia too and had it in my bouquet– lovely to look at and a lovely perfume. Maybe your bouquet like the last pic and the MOH’s inversed– more white w/rust accents?

Ditto Andrea: Fire Callas for MOH, the last bouquet for you! Gorgeous!

I say rusts and oranges for the BMs and white/ivory for you. I’m not a big fan of calla lilies since they are mostly associated with funerals.

I vote for the last one. It’s such a perfect mix of color and the white brightens it up. Beautiful!

I agree with nashgirl and smartl. Because of the color of your MOHs dress, I would do a neutral/ivory color bouquet for her and a bouquet full of rust, reds, oranges, etc for you.

I like the mix of the color and the white for you, and the plain white for your MOH. :)
