Other Things I Did Right

September 10th, 2007 @ 2:14 pm by Mrs. Snow Pea

Here is a list of other things I did that seemed to really help me and the bridal party along (in no particular order):

1. Extra photocopies of the phone list in the bridal suite and hotel rooms. Not everyone will have everyone’s number at all times, so the phone list came in handy. That and you don’t have to scroll through your cell phone.

2. Made maps with church, central park and reception location with circulation pattern.

3. My Reading Cards were a hit! I brought them with me to the rehearsal at the cathedral and handed them out there. No risk of the reader losing it or forgetting to bring it. It was a good thing too because the priest didn’t have the readings with him. They were small enough to put in a clutch or jacket pocket. Sister-in-law Pea wrapped hers around her bouquet.

4. Make half the number of programs; 1 per couple and minus the bridal party. I only made 50-60 programs for 105 guests and considered 20 were in the bridal party. Many guests didn’t show up to the ceremony. I had about 10 leftover, which was enough to pass out to family and bridal party who didn’t get one at the wedding.

5. Lipstick, signed blank checks and cash went into my MOH’s handbag. She remembered to reapply my lipstick. She wrote out checks if I needed. She paid everyone for me or held the money for me to pay vendors and cabs.

6. Gratuity envelopes - I used little red chinese envelopes for gratuities. I spelled out the vendor’s name and what their service was, ie. makeup/hair.

7. Assigned 1 Bridesmaid and 1 Groomsman to be in charge of the rest of the party.

8. Foot petals - These are a little pricey (I bought them on sale at Nordstrom), but they were worth every penny! Best of all, they are “reuseable”. You can look hot in high heels, but without the pain.

9. Stayed at a different hotel from the rest of the family and OOT guests.

10. Booked an additional hotel room at the 3 West Club to change dresses and store stuff.

11. Not traveling in packs. One makeup artist did me and my MOH. Another did everyone else. That evened things out. I wasn’t waiting around and the jibber jabber happened elsewhere.

Other Suggestions:

1. The OOT bags were great! Everyone loved them and the bottled water was very much appreciated. Only thing is that the gable boxes don’t stack on top of one another which made transportation a little tricky and annoying. I suggest using paper bags with handles. They are affordable, available anywhere, come in an array of colors and you can grab a bunch at one time to transport.

2. Don’t bother with a clutch! My something borrowed was Mr. Snow Pea’s mom’s clutch and it just wound up in my brother’s pocket the whole night and then lost in our wedding “stuff”.

What are some other things you found helpful or a nuisance during the wedding?

that’s awesome that you had to make so few programs…i probably would’ve made way too many! i’ll keep that in mind when i get to that part of the prep process :-)

I only have enough paper to make 70 programs for 118 guests (8 are bridal party). I may use this post to help calm my mom’s nerves that we don’t have enough!
