Color Inspiration

September 11th, 2007 @ 12:00 pm by Mrs. Magnolia

Lately, I’ve really been struggling with our wedding colors. I know that blue and brown are good together, but most of the time we’re talking about light blue and brown. I’m trying to pull together navy and chocolate brown with accent colors of light blue and champagne. When I tell people this, they usually cock their heads to the side and look at me funny.

Is it too much? Are my colors too dark, even for an evening, winter wedding?

The bridesmaids will be in navy. Our flowers will be all white, with a little bit of light blue. We’re looking at all white linens with chocolate runners. The chairs at the reception are a dark wood with a taupe fabric. Honestly, I love it all in bits and pieces, but I’ve had a hard time picturing it coming together.

Until Abby at Style Me Pretty linked over to Big Huge Lab’s Palette Generator. I looked through my saved pictures, trying to figure out which one best epitomized my color scheme for the wedding. Here’s what I came up with:

The Atlanta skyline at night. I like to think that’s what the city will look like on the evening of our January 2008 wedding. So what did the palette generator come up with, based on this picture?

It’s perfect. That’s my color inspiration, in palette form. Yay!

Oh goodness no they’re not too much! I think that’s the prettiest color scheme I’ve seen in a while _especially_ for a classy, winter, evening wedding. Gor-geous! :)

A friend of mine did your exact color scheme (minus the champagne) and it looked nothing but classy! I designed her invites with navy and brown and a touch of light blue…. her bridesmaids wore navy and carried white flowers…. everything really looked classy and pulled together!

I like the navy - and I love the picture (and the Atlanta skyline) - but I have to say that I am so over brown. Everyone has been doing brown in their weddings (brown and blue, brown and pink, etc.). I like the navy with the light blue and champagne, and I think wood will go with those because it’s so natural, but it sounds like the only brown will be in the runner, no? I think that only a touch of brown will be nice, but I have to say that I like the scheme better w/o the brown. Just MHO of course.

My colors are navy with light blue and champagne… no brown. I just didn’t like brown, plus we’re doing an outdoor wedding and it didn’t work for us. I think it could work though.

Our bridesmaids are in navy and the flower girls are in light blue. My dress is champagne and the girls will carry cream and light blue flowers.

Very serene! The song, “Mac the Knife” comes to mind.

Those colors look gorgeous! We’re having blue & brown too, but more of a turquoise. I had difficulty finding flowers that matched but it turned out okay! :)

Kami, I totally agree that chocolate brown has become the “super trendy” wedding color as of late. I actually wore two different tea-length chocolate brown bridesmaids dresses last year! As I’m figuring out more of the details of the day, I keep leaning more toward navy and white as our main colors - everything else seems to be an accent! So we’ll see how it turns out!

ladyjeni, I believe I did a screenshot (print screen) and copied the page into power point. Then I cropped the picture to just the palette and saved it as a jpg. It lost a ton of resolution, but you still get the color idea, right? :)

I think it looks really pretty.

I’m actually doing white and ice blue with accents of navy. I always wanted those colors, and now that I’m in the heart of planning, I kind of like the fact that it’s a relatively unique color scheme - so I’m not seeing variations of our wedding in every other picture I look at.

You can only imagine the sheer joy I felt, when we went to go look at an old historic site, and saw that the two story ballroom had ice blue walls with white shutters and trim…

I love it! I think it’s beautiful, perfect for a winder, evening wedding, and it’s very dramatic! It’s different than things you usually see, too - wonderful choice!

I think that your color combination sounds perfect. Especially if the darker colors were sort of jewel-tone.

Those are raelly good results. The ones I get from doing that generator are funky. So I’m still struggling with colors…
