About Mrs. Violet

Merci Beaucoup

September 13th, 2007 @ 5:25 pm by Mrs. Violet

The wedding is over and it’s time to write the thank you notes.. or not. When we made our contract with our photographer, it included 80 Thank You Photo cards. It was optional and we didn’t pay extra for it, and at the time I thought it would be cool. In retrospect, I really wish we could have asked to swap it with something else. Our photo proofs are expected to arrive 6 weeks after the wedding which means I have another 4 weeks or so before we get them. Then we have to choose the proofs we like. Who knows how much longer that will take? I’m the kind of person that wants to immediately send a thank you note as soon as I get a gift, and this waiting stinks.

For some reason, I forgot that I make cards (DIY overload perhaps?)! I could have made the cards, printed our own non-pro photo to include and have it sent already. I guess it’s because I didn’t expect to get really great non-pro shots, but fortunately, we did get a few nice shots. My favorite so far was posted in “The Key to Love“.

Luckily, most people gave us cash gifts. For those that mailed us a gift from our registry, I immediately sent an email to tell them that I received it and that a formal Thank you note was on the way. This way, they at least know that we received it. Sigh, anyone else opted to have Photo Thank You cards made?

While we wait, thought I’d show you the cards I made to thank our friends and family for engagement/housewarming gifts and other miscellaneous things.

Wow, those cards are awesome! Could you possibly tell the photographer that you don’t want to opt for the photo cards? S/he could give you a credit towards something else - maybe take 150 off the price (I’m totally guessing, I don’t know what’s reasonable). You could send your own cards, and get started whenever you like instead of waiting. It’s worth asking the photographer, anyway. If it’s not possible to cancel that aspect of the order, then maybe you could use them for holiday cards? And think of it in those terms when you select the proof to be made into cards. Instead of being for the thank you cards, it could be holiday cards. Just a thought. At any rate, your DIY cards are marvelous!

i agree with meleven. save those thank you cards for another day [hopefully they don't already say thank you] and just use your fav picture and make you’re own. that way you’re at least getting your thank you cards out in a timely fashion that won’t make you so antsy.

i’m planning on doing the photo thank you cards but by printing out my photo [i'm thinking of doing a collage type like mrs. spider] and having them printed at a photo shop or where ever.

I love the thank you notes you posted here. I believe you made them, yes? Could you elaborate a bit on how you did these? They are lovely!

why didn’t I think of that — holiday cards! duh… oh and yes, I’ve already asked if I could opt out of the cards and get something else, or a credit.. but unfortunately the answer was no.

miss petunia - yes i made the cards. i didn’t take any pictures of the process of making these cards, since i already make similar cards in my etsy shop, but i’ll write up a quick tutorial soon for those that want to go DIY.

I think using photo cards for holiday cards is a great idea! Since you make beautiful handmade cards, you can send them out right away for thank you’s. I hate waiting to send out thank you cards too. We used shutterfly to make photo thank you cards and it was really nice. We thought it would be a nice remembrance of the wedding and for family members, it’s a ‘photo’ they can keep. Everyone loved it.

I had thank you photos done and they were in less than a week after I chose the picture I wanted (the proofs took 3 weeks). It’s not too bad, you have 2 months to write thank you cards, right?
