Hey everybody!
First of all, I just want to say thanks to Mrs. Bee and the rest of the WB team, for not only inviting me to join the fold, but for all their hard work on the site. When I first got engaged back in May, the idea of putting together something as big as a wedding was incredibly daunting, but the site has really helped me get motivated and excited to start planning.
So, a little about me. As I mentioned, when we first got engaged, I kind of found myself at a bit of a loss in that I was never one of those girls who had their wedding planned out from birth. In fact, for a good number of years, I didn’t really think getting married was in the cards for me. I dated a lot in college, but the relationships I had were never very serious or very good. In my late teens/early twenties, I went through a whole phase of liking people who were wildly inappropriate for me and then thinking I could somehow magically change them. As anyone who has ever done this before knows, it’s nothing but bad news. Believing you can somehow transform your punk rock chain smoking bartender boyfriend into someone you can settle down with is pretty much guaranteed to result in emotional devastation.
After a couple of years of this, and after two particularly bad breakups in a row, I felt like I’d had enough. It was time to take a break from the dating scene and just focus on work and hanging out with my friends (who, incidentally, are mostly guys) and forget about having a love life for a while.
Naturally, about a week after embarking on The Great Man Fast of 2004, I met Mr. Hummingbird. I’ll get into the details of our first meeting in a subsequent post, but needless to say, fate works in mysterious ways, since here I am, your brand new Miss Hummingbird. ![]()
As a side note, I have to admit, I was originally coveting both the titles of Miss Gardenia or Miss Penguin (Hi Miss Penguin!), but after a bit of thought, I went with Miss Hummingbird for three reasons:
1) The site where we plan to get married is the place where I saw my very first Hummingbird ever;
2) Mr. Hummingbird says I’m always flitting around, trying to spread joy to people;
3) He also teases me that I am completely reliant on sugar to live. LOL.
Anyway, I’m really looking forward to posting here and getting to know my way around the hive, but for the time being, I want to know about you, the awesome audience of people who frequent this site. Who is reading this post? Where are you from? When are you getting married? Drop me a line and let’s get acquainted! ![]()
