Since I haven’t purchased a formal dress since my high school prom, I have to admit that when it came to picking out a dress for the wedding, I did not know what to expect. I’d heard horror stories from various brides about pushy/grabby sales people and shoddy sample dresses, so after I made my appointment, I found myself worrying about what awaited me when I arrived at the dress store.
Fortunately, my fears were soothed when I arrived at Ritche in North York with my awesome MOHs, E and Greg, and met my bridal consultant Sheri. Not only was she respectful and helpful when it came to trying on dresses but when I went over with her the kind of styles I liked, she picked out some great styles I wouldn’t have even considered.
All in all it was an absolutely great day.
So, without further ado, the pictures!

Here is the duchess silk and lace with champagne waist cinch. Going into dress shopping, this is the style I was most excited about because it was simple and elegantly cut. Plus, even though it is really trendy right now, a little splash of colour at the waist is pretty awesome.

The back of the champagne sashed dress.

A simple white ruched number.

Double sash silk with another ruched front. While the fabric was pretty, the cut of the dress made me look kind of boxy in person.

Back of the double sashed silk. I dug the v cut back but there was too much going on for me with the sashes and the buttons and such, and with three different sets of zips and snaps, it took forever to put on.

A Maggie Sottero beaded sash dress. Like most of the pics of me, I’m looking down because I’m admiring the detailing.

A full view of the Maggie as I lean against the wall.

Me doing a sit test in a puffy dress. You can’t tell from the pic, but the dress I’m wearing is actually gold with ivory touches.

Me standing up in the same dress.

Full skirt and back detail. The buttons looked great and the cut of the skirt was nice but it was seriously heavy!

A floral organza with empire waist, accented by a bow. Loved the length of the skirt since we’re getting married outdoors by a pond, so I don’t want to drag around yards of fabric, but the bodice was a little uncomfortable because the boning went down a bit too far and the underlay of the dress was a bit too thick.

Finally my favourite dress! The first sample dress was a little bit big, so Sheri helped me clip it in place! The underlay fabric was light enough to be cool for the summer and bodice of the dress was beaded with beautiful translucent beads.

A close up of the beading. Before I tried the dress on, I was convinced that I did not like beading since the only dresses I had seen with beading up to this point were so adorned, they looked like disco balls. But the beads on this dress were so delicate looking, they just made the dress pop.

Me wearing the dress making a face at Greg who was urging me to work it like on Top Model. LOL.

Me smiling. It’s actually comfortable!

Me in a proper fitting non-chip clipped version of the dress I like. Wooo! Organza!
Anyway, I am still working out exactly what I am going to do dress-wise, but I think I’ve at least narrowed it down to something resembling either the first (champagne sash) or last (woo! organza!) styles.
What do you think?
