Honeymoon in Leather

September 18th, 2007 @ 2:57 pm by Mrs. Lemon

I took lots of snapshots with my trusty little (so little it fits in an Altoids box!) Optio S camera on our honeymoon, and wanted to turn the memories into some sort of memento. Since my camera is old and only 3 MP, the photos coming out of it aren’t perfect for photobooks, but they aren’t horrible either. I’ve printed hard and soft cover books using MyPublisher and PhotoWorks, so when I happened upon a coupoon for a free large-size leather photobook from Picaboo, I thought I’d take them up on the offer!

I made the book in a little over an hour using their huge selection of layouts and scrapbook background pages. It arrived via UPS today, and I’m really happy with the quality of the book! The pages are thick and crisp (a bit heavier than MyPublisher), the full page bleeds are quite nice, and the navy leather cover is a nice added touch. I can definitely say that it was worth the $13 (tax and s&h) that I paid!

Mrs. Lemon, did you use templates from Picaboo for your layouts or your own. Like the map of the front/cover page?

I did a Picaboo book for our guest book, and I had mixed feelings. I would give them an A for customer service (my first book arrived in not-so-good condition — already creased — and things that were well within the “safe zone” were cropped off, but they replaced it right away and were so nice to work with!) Oh, they also have a LOT of layout choices, and I really liked that.

I’m wondering if you did any text in yours — I did, and it did not come out as crisp as I would have liked. Maybe b/c it was a small point size script. I also felt like the photos looked a little bit grainy (it’s definitely a print process thing, and not a result of poor photos). That was the thing that I wasn’t so happy with.

Overall, I’d recommend Picaboo for more casual albums, like honeymoon or just a fun compilation, but I’m not planning on using them for my “official” wedding album.

I used picaboo a while ago for our honeymoon too! I loved it, I tried shutterfly, winkflash and a few others before settling on picaboo. Can you share your photobook online? I have a link to ours on our site
