Mr. & Mrs. Bluebell’s First Dance

We had our first dance just as dinner was winding down to “Look for Me As You Go By” by the Innocence Mission.

Hang my head low, so low.
Don’t see me only as I am but
see me how I long to be.
Shining like a flowering tree
under a gray Pennsylvania sky.
Look for me as you go by.
[musical interlude]
Hang my head low, so low.
Every burden shall be lifted.
Every stone upon your back slide into the sea.
It’s me for you and you for me.
[last line repeats a zillion times]

Yes, some of the lyrics might be a teensy bit odd for a first dance, but we looove it, and the last line repeating forever just keeps building and building into this really emotional moment. Haha I’ll shut up now. blush024

Since we’re not big dancers and this isn’t really a “dance”y song anyway, we just swayed for probably under a minute. Then we gestured to the pre-selected several couples we had told to join us on the dance floor for the rest of the song, and everyone caught on and we had a big group dance which was exactly what we wanted! We really enjoyed having a moment to ourselves, but after everyone else was there we were still just in the moment together, only less self-conscious about other people watching us. happy042

I’ve never heard that song, but love the line, “Don’t see me only as I am but see me how I long to be.” Isn’t that what we all want from our nearest and dearest? Beautiful photos, as all of yours have been.

And thanks ChicagoSarah, too! Yeah, that one line is definitely my favorite in the song and the one that made me think it was “first dance”y enough to use. :-)

We chose and unusual song too.. “Somebody” by Depeche Mode. We also didn’t really dance, just swayed, but we actually did it for the entire song.. looking back, we should have done what you did, lol!

I love the last line in your song!

i really like the lyrics, and even though I’ve never heard it, it sounds like a great first dance song. I’m going to have to go find a copy of it somewhere….

Thanks guys!! :-)

Bride of Rochester - Mr. Bluebell actually posted a link, so just click that! (FYI I don’t think it showed up on the site until a while after your comment, so you’re not going crazy if you don’t remember it being there, hehe)

Mrs. Violet & Mrs. Peach - yeah, I’m really shy AND I hate dancing so I knew I had to plan some way to get the eyes off me pretty quickly!! We ended up “dancing” alone for longer than I had originally expected though, but I was definitely glad we didn’t have to keep going after we did decide that it was time!!
