Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Why Can’t I Stop Buying Crap?

September 19th, 2007 @ 4:57 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Someone get me away from CVS. Lately they’ve had their Fall sale going on, and I bought a ton of crap.

For $1.99 each, I got a few votive candle holders and some tealight holders.

Many apologies for the crappy picture.

Ivory tealight (I have no picture taking skills)

Centerpiece with the votive candle holder (the crap in the back is more wedding stuff)

While we were there, I stumbled upon a super cool lined basket. The perfect size for holding programs, don’cha think? Yes, the stitching is a little off, but in person you can’t even see that. And duuuuude- it was five dollars! It’s exactly what I wanted in a program basket. As you can see it has acorns and oak leaves. Hopefully you can see it. :)

Once the basket is done at the ceremony, we’re going to have to move it to the reception. I’m not quite sure why, maybe to hold the pens and crap? Eh. For the mere five dollars, I’m going to use it to hold extra napkins!

hahaha…that reminds me. I was a DIY disaster. I bought things that had nothing to do with my DIY projects. The pretty papers that were way too expensive to make invitations out of, the cake topper I never used, the 90 white basket weave bordered dinner plates for the reception…the list goes on. I could have saved myself so much money and hassle. But I thought for sure I was going to use it!

A note about stuff you actually use though :)

If you have a coordinator or point person who is helping with set up, they can help make everything pull double duty. The basket could be great for programs for the ceremony, but could be used for napkins for the reception or to hold bottles of bubbles for the exit. It helps make the money you spend here and there go farther.

At least these are things you can use in your home post-wedding.

You could use the basket for people to put cards in when they come to the reception. There are always some people who have cards rather than a huge gift.

I was laughing out loud after reading just the post title!!! Every day I find more “crap” that I must (?) have. It won’t be so funny when I have to tell people “um, yeah I didn’t have money left to feed you, but look at all my cute little crap!”

Yeah, my last wedding purchase (except for the fishing line–don’t ask) was a little red suitcase, about the same size as your basket. I didn’t know why I felt like I had to have it, but I just bought it anyway. It ended up being a great way to move around smaller things that I was afraid would get lost in the jumble otherwise. You know, like, rings? Then it sat open on a chair at the ceremony, as a great program display, and later it became the card repository. All-purpose little red suitcase!

OMG, your post made me laugh so hard - I love it! I’m still in CVS all the time buying “crap on sale”…and I’ve been married for 9 years. When you figure out how to break the habit, let me know what your secret was - LOL!
