Dry… or Wet?

September 20th, 2007 @ 10:56 am by Mrs. Cherry Blossom

I emailed my girlfriends for their opinion … and I got back 50/50 votes. ARGH matey. confuse02 Why must I be so indecisive?!?! Both Mr. CB and I are a tad stumped. They’re both so OOOH LA LA in photos ….

Photos courtesy of Scott Robert:

We have the oh-so-gorgeous, elegant, rose petals option that will cost more but look so beautiful:

OR …. we have can have bubbles!!! which is the cheaper, super cool, alternative but might be a little messy and possibly stain people’s clothing (which I’ve heard from my gf’s previous experience.) pleased020 How fabulous is this photo (check out the larger version on his website)?!?! This is taken from the most recent wedding that Scott Robert just shot! Amazing! I f’n love it!

So my dears, I enlist your help, which would you prefer? Rose Petals or Bubbles?

I’m gonna have to go with petals!

Rose petals for sure. Very elegant.

Rose petals!

I love rose petals, but it depends on your venue. Will you have guests toss the petals outside or inside? Some places don’t like rose petals on the floor due to them being smashed by guests’ feet.

Bubbles are nice if you can get bottles that are easy to open (no chance of spilling while trying to get the sucker open.)

Petals! I like color, so I think it looks better. :)

harugirlie says:

hmm, i like bubbles better because of the way they look in photos. Guess I’m not much help :P

Lavendar rose petals for us!

emily says:

petals!
besides it seems like everyone is doing bubbles… and as a guest they get all sticky on your hands.

Julie says:

I have a friend who just got married, and they had everyone blow bubbles. It was fantastic! Plus, even just little me with my non-professional digital camera got some FANTASTIC shots. If I wasn’t getting married totally indoors (we are just getting in an elevator and going down 32 flights to get from the ceremony to the reception), I would absolutely do bubbles. So much fun!

ktbuffy says:

I’m pondering the exact same decision! Although, if I go with bubbles, I won’t give out bottles to all of the guests — I was thinking of just handing out bubble guns to our two nephews and letting them go wild.

I love the way both look, and we’re doing the toss outside, so there won’t be a mess to clean up. Then again, I don’t have to worry about possible stains with petals.

Argh! I’m no help. Let me know what you decide!!

I was in a wedding a couple of months ago that had bubbles as the couple left, and there were no problems! I don’t know of anyone who got any stains on their clothes, and the pictures are amazing! I vote for bubbles.

Angel says:

Rose petals for me. I always have a heck of a time with blowing bubbles. Besides, I’d rather throw something up in the air than have to make a kissing face at a little stick. :)

13.
calamansi says:

if it’s in your budget…do both!

J says:

bubbles: more modern. weddings have enough flowers already in my opinion.

there are bubble machines ($5 - chinatown street vendors on canal in nyc) that make a whole bunch at one time ….the nice large ones too! from someone just holding down a button.

you could do that with guests blowing for extra effect or without out guest bottles and that would definitely be enough for the effect seen in your pic.

good luck!

Not to throw another option your way — but my photographers once shot a wedding where they used ribbon wands, and I LOVED it! No mess, very little cost if you DIY, and a very pretty outcome.

If you get bubbles, I suggest the bubble guns rather than giving out little bottle of bubbles to people. At a wedding this summer, I was concentrating so hard on blowing bubbles out of a minature wand that I missed the couple coming out of the church!

FutureMrsRose says:

I’d go with bubbles. Young, fresh, modern. I love it.

18.
Tanya says:

Rose petals. They’re so much more classic than bubbles. Bubbles just seem a little childish and/or trendy to me. I like the playfulness, but I’m a classic kind of girl.

19.
daydreamer33 says:

My vote is for bubbles. :)

20.
jen says:

I love the look of all of these. I agree that bubbles do have a potential for messes. But do you have to consider picking up the petals afterwards? If so, then bubbles it is!

Question though: how do you *arrange* this? The couple walks out of the church/venue first, right? So does a BM ask guests to wait outside while you and the groom go back inside to take photos inside?

21.
bride of rochester says:

i’m for bubbles. they hang around longer. however, as dddd89 pointed out, sometimes guest have to concentrate on blowing a little too much, imho. i would consider the bubble machine idea!

Rose Petals!

Bride888 says:

Bubbles look good in photos, but so do petals when they are a nice rich color. I had a hard time blowing the bubbles using the tiny wand. It’s hard trying to concentrate on blowing bubbles, trying to see the couple, and trying to take a picture of them.

25.
Alison says:

I think rose petals are lovely - but bubbles are more fun!

26.
MsYuMMie says:

rose petals are definitely very classy but b/c it’s not translucent, it might look like the second picture (groom’s forehead) or worse block the bride’s eyes or something and some people might look at the picture and think it’s just color papers. i personality like bubbles more in pictures =). good luck! keep us posted with your decisions!

27.
Yasmin says:

I vote for rose petals as well.

Faith says:

We’re doing nothing. Because we’re lame and don’t want to go through the extra expense and trouble. (Our church won’t allow petals or rice or anything like that, and I’m about up to HERE with preparing favors and OOT gift boxes, so I couldn’t care less about the bubbles. People can clap for us as we exit the church…that’ll be enough for me. :))

But I do prefer the look of bubbles in those photos, and others I’ve seen. And personally, the last gazillion weddings I’ve been to have had bubbles for us guests to blow, and I’ve never heard a single complaint about the bubble stuff getting on clothes and making messes. I’ve never experienced it myself, either.

PhxBride says:

im going to go with MsYummie…everytime i see a rose petal picture, there’s always a few in the weirdest places! :)

bubbles, we didn’t know how well it would go over at our wedding because it was mostly adults but everyone loved it.. we had about 80 bubble containers and about 100 guests.. it was plenty, inexpensive, clean, and a lot of fun. the kids that were in attendance went wild for it, and the pictures look beautiful. itw as so nice to come out and have all these bubbles floating around after we got married..i have a feeling getting a bunch of petals thrown at you might be more cause of pain..or stain:) happy future wedding!

Rose petals!

Shortcake2675 says:

Originally I wanted to use rice, but our church didn’t allow anything to be thrown that could be slipped on. I even asked about marshmallows, but the priest just laughed at me. So we used bubbles. I conned my little sister who didn’t want to make paper flowers into tying the ribbon on the test tube style bubble containers, put them in a basket and had the guest book attendent hand them out as people were exiting. In the end, I loved the photos we got with the bubbles and I think everyone had fun blowing them!

34.
MsYuMMie says:

My girlfriend made a good point. She said it’s up to what type of look and feel you want to give. Rose petals are very romantic and classic and bubbles are fun, lightedhearted and playful. She would go with bubbles cuz thats what she’d want the mood to be and it’s also more cost effective too. And about my previous comment with pictures, if you have Scott Robert as as photographer, all the photos will come out heavenly even if it lands on the head =). Good luck!

35.
Weazie says:

Love the petals!

36.
L says:

I’m going to have to say petals! Sure, there may be some chunks of petals in faces or what not, but I’ve gotten more distracted by looking at bubbles blocking the view….when you get a whooooole lot of people blowing bubbles, the whole frame is just swimming in them. For some people, that’s the point. So, I guess go with your gut for what you like (and want to afford) most!

37.
Summer says:

We’re doing lavender buds. It tosses like rice, smells better, and is non-slippery. My fiance was very anti-bubble. He didn’t want a ton of pictures of people making the “bubble face”. Everyone I’ve told seems very happy with the idea of lavender but I guess if you have a lot of allergy-prone people it might be a problem.

38.
Tea says:

i actually like both. but if you’re leaning towards petals, a few bees did buy freeze-dried petals and you can search the archives for their reviews. that can help with costs unless you’re able to strike a killer deal with your florist for fresh petals

I love bubbles. We didn’t do a “sending away” really at my wedding, because there was too much going on with pictures and such before the reception, but I would definitely have done bubbles. I’ve seen it done before, it’s sweet, the pictures come out great, and I don’t think it’s “trendy.” I was at a wedding where they had bubbles, and it must have been quite a long time ago, because they waited a few years to have kids and their oldest is about 10 now. It’s very easy cleanup as well. I would look into different methods besides just people blowing bubbles if you’re going for a lot of them, just so you dont’ have to worry about people missing seeing you or anything. I also like the bubble wands, like this:
http://foreverwedstore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=F&Product_Code=FW1007-8017

rather than the little squat bubbles; i think they’re way cuter.

If it’s at night, you could do sparklers.

Someone mentioned ribbon wands…what a great idea. No mess, no clean up, and easy to wave around. I don’t know that they’re as cheap as bubbles but the picture looked cool.

So how about a wedding bee poll? Petals, Bubbles, Ribbon Wands, or Sparkelers

Angel - great idea! Mrs. Bee - any way we can turn this into a poll?

Ugh! Ribbon wands. No. Just…no.

Moi says:

I hate the bubbles and get out of the way when I see it coming. It’s a mess and seems very young.

47.
Emily says:

BUBBLES! Cheaper and nothing to clean up and easier to pass around! I guess I’m a very practical person…

48.
brendalynn says:

I was just at a wedding this weekend that used bubbles–and there were no problems with being “messy” or getting on people’s clothes… And I thought the photos of them looked great.

The effect will also be different in that bubbles continue to float once they’ve been sent off–whereas petals are just tossed and fall to the ground…

49.
Jen says:

bubbles! =) I love the way it looks in Scott’s pictures.

T says:

I had petals thrown at us when we walked down the aisle. A friend of mine hit me in the eye with a wad of petals. Luckily it didn’t damage anything and my photographer caught a pretty cool picture. Bubbles move slower so you can avoid it more easily.. but I love both ideas. I went with petals because it was cheaper.

bubbles! we went to a cousins wedding with them & everyone had fun outside with bubbles while the wedding party did the receiving line in the church. i got great pics!
i am leery of petals bc i saw an otherwise awesome photo of a couple leaving a church with lots of colorful rose petals… except the grooms eye looked black bc there was a petal in the way!! i couldnt stop staring at it. if youre more about living in the moment than the record of the moment, tho, i have to say the petals look great!
