Invitations

September 20th, 2007 @ 5:37 pm by Mrs. Caramel

Our invitations were my first attempt to DIY something for the wedding.  Our colors are turquoise and chocolate, but the turquoise sometimes shifts more green or more blue, depending on which shade I really like at the moment. Invitations : wedding diy invitations los angeles Cool02 cool02

I got my invitations from Southwest Announcements, and they have super cheap deals! You can get bulk packages that come with RSVP cards and envelopes, so it just makes things a lot easier. Also, if you call them you’ll be able to talk to a real person who can give you dimensions and answer your questions right away. Very helpful!

We ended up picking these, since the calla lily was our signature wedding flower:

Although I was against getting all white invitations, I really liked the borders. My very talented friend helped me by designing the very elegant “S” on translucent paper. Mr. Caramel and I definitely wanted something classy and elegant. Here’s what we decided on:

two halves on one 8.5 x 11 sheet

I punched holes through the invitation and translucent layer to tie the ribbon, which I got from Martha Stewart’s line at Michael’s. (hmm… interesting that her line colors are the same as my wedding colors!)

Here’s the ribbon I used:

After all the cutting and ribbon tying, here’s what the final invitation looked like: (we ran out of brown ribbon for the last 20% of the invitation batch, so this is what the leftovers look like)

The same friend also taught me the beauty of embossing, which was fun but tiring after doing so many. I thought it was a great idea to have them cut off on the sides:

And just to add the cherry on top, I couldn’t wait to use this bride & groom stamp I also bought at Michael’s. It was probably the very first “wedding thing” I bought months ago. So cute!

My MOH/sister, who has the most beautiful handwriting in the world – addressed the envelopes.

I bought those things scrolly stamps at Wal-Mart. They are the kind that stick to a clear block. I used the same exact envelope design (minus the embossing) on my cards to my bridesmaids-to-be. How odd!

I should seriously not receive not that much credit - I got SO much help! But thanks for your encouragements! I was SO happy with the results too! =D (sorry Reila, all I know is that the calligraphy pen size was “medium” but that’s all I remember and those pens are long gone!)

the blue border on the transparent paper - is that a stamp? I like the overlay~
